BRIEF POSITION SUMMARY:

The position of Government Product Manager requires a broad understanding of industrial items and adding items to a GSA schedule while managing remote direct reports effectively and reprioritizing needs daily.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leads and manages team of dedicated government sourcing analysts and associates in supporting ongoing government product needs and completing multiple projects.

  • Acts as key point of contact between government sales and product organizations.

  • Works closely with management and product/sales teams to develop and execute government program strategy, specifying sales growth, business mix, and profitability management.

  • Conducts quarterly executive summary reviews covering strategies and results

  • Understands key compliance and contracting issues associated with government segment and incorporates into business planning and decision making.

  • Oversees government sourcing process, ensuring achievement of specific goals and targets, including customer service levels, product approval rates, and profitability.

  • Fully understands GSA (U.S. General Services Administration) approval process and works closely with compliance group to facilitate product approval.

  • Collaborates with product group for specific larger sourcing projects.

  • Oversees support of cross-referencing efforts.

  • Drives on-going review of government product offering to achieve profitability goals, ensure strategic alignment across locations, and develop optimal supplier relationships.

  • Oversees timely and accurate generation of profitability reports.

  • Identifies and implements action plans in response to improvement opportunities.

  • Actively manages product offering, including response to phase outs.

  • Supports introduction of private label offering into government program.

  • Ensures accuracy and integrity of data surrounding government product offering.

  • Manages and negotiates supplier contracts in collaboration with suppliers, business owners, and legal team.

  • Forms and maintains strategic relationships with key suppliers to control costs, and act as the main point of contact for government-specific suppliers for MSC.

  • Supports identification of logistics solutions and is accountable for supply chain management in support of P&L and service to the customer.

  • Provides on-going guidance and support to government locations.

  • Supports category profit improvement initiatives (CPI) for government sector.

  • Performs all duties inherent in the role of an MSC manager including hiring, termination, review and development of associates.

  • Knowledge of 4PL Federal Government

  • Manage full product offering to ensure mission critical items for the USMC are available and on contract.

  • Leadership role in shaping the 4PL offering through engagement with field sales & supplier marketplace.

  • Work with Federal Team to develop strategy for referral (spot buy) business that utilizes the 4PL contract.

  • Manage future state including OCONUS (Outside the Continental US) and will support sourcing needs for Japan and PAC Rim.

  • Vital role working with GSA contacts and Cross Functional MSC associates to ensure success in contract offering right compliant item at a fair & reasonable market price in a timely manner.

  • GSA's upcoming schedule consolidation program will broaden the scope of our 51V contract offering providing tremendous opportunity for growth.

  • Drives the MSC Culture in the department and throughout the company to ensure fulfillment of MSC's vision and unity of purpose.

  • Participation in special projects and performs additional duties as required

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business and three years of business experience OR ten years of relevant business experience required.

  • Minimum of three years of business experience required.

  • Minimum of one year supervisory/management experience required.

  • Military product knowledge preferred

  • Industrial procurement and/or distribution experience preferred

SKILLS:

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills required.

  • Strong management, leadership, and communication skills required.

  • Excellent analytical skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office with focus on Excel and Access required.

  • Database skills, combined with strong understanding of database structure and integrity required.

  • Ability to identify, develop, and communicate data and trend-driven strategic initiatives required.

  • In depth understanding of sourcing process, including customer interaction, supplier negotiations, product development, and compliance is required.

  • Familiarity with variety of industrial products and understanding of government procurement process is required.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • A valid driver's license and the ability to travel up to 15% of time required.
