As part of a hardworking team of diverse spacecraft development engineers, you will build and lead a diverse team of GN&C engineers developing and delivering on-board autonomy algorithms and flight software. In this role, you will manage between 7-12 direct reports.

You will work directly with NASA and our National Team Partners as part of the Human Landing System (HLS) Sustaining Lunar Development (SLD) program. You will play a key role in developing the Lunar Permanence system that will return humans to the Moon and extend human presence permanently beyond the bounds of Earth.

Responsibilities:

  • Directly develop a team of GN&C autonomy engineers. This includes being responsible for the people, processes, and tools crucial for best-in-class performance.

  • Recruit, hire, manage, and mentor a diverse, equitable, and inclusive team

  • Manage direct reports' professional development (e.g., hiring, performance reviews, compensation and promotion management, routine one-on-one development conversations) and coach them on performance.

  • Demonstrate effective communication, listening abilities, and empathy as a leader. You are an expert in the subject area, and you will assure that your team's work products meet domain quality standards. You will ensure the team's work standards and tools align with other Blue Origin business units and with industry trends.

  • Guide architecture for integrated vehicle autonomous behaviors, modes, and states; fault protection; and interactions with operators.

  • Guide and support the development and execution of autonomy applications at both the vehicle level and local control level

  • Guide and support software- and hardware-in-the-loop testing and verification for vehicle autonomy

  • Perform technical work and provide technical leadership of the highest caliber

  • Embody, promote, and coach the Blue Origin leadership principles

  • Support the integrated product manager to identify and track program and technical risks, develop and maintain schedule, resource allocation, and budget

Qualifications:

  • Minimum BS and applied industry experience in aerospace or related field

  • Experience leading technical teams

  • Industry experience with systems for space, reentry, or hypersonic vehicles

  • Experience in development of requirements, interfaces, trades, and analyses for autonomy systems

  • Strong fundamentals in rigid body dynamics, fluid mechanics, and/or first principles physics-based mathematical models

  • Strong understanding of spacecraft autonomy principles and fault protection techniques

  • Understanding of the principles, concepts, and methods of systems engineering such as concept development, requirement definition, design solution definition, implementation, integration, verification and validation, qualification, commissioning, and operations

  • Experience in modeling hardware components and analyzing performance of subsystem or components via simulation, testing, or analytical methods

  • Experienced with Model Based Development paradigms and strong modeling and software development skills

  • Leadership experience on technical projects managing deliverables, schedules, and labor resources.

  • Experience in Cameo Systems Modeler, DOORS Next Generation, Jama, and Matlab/Simulink

  • Experienced in configuration and product data management

  • Comfortable collaborating with technical peers across a variety of engineering domains

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast paced, dynamic work environment

  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Desired (but not required):

  • MS or Ph.D. in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical engineering or related subject areas

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with verification, validation, and certification of simulations and models

  • Demonstrated knowledge in orbital mechanics, astrodynamics, vehicle dynamics, robotics, flight environment analysis, simulation, and modeling

  • Experience in development of GN&C capabilities for human rated systems

  • Experience in employee professional development and performance assessment and alignment

  • Experience with Windchill, Jama, and Git

Compensation range for on site CO applicants is $125,235-$175,329

Compensation range for on site WA applicants is $136,620-$191,268

Compensation range for on site CA applicants is $136,620-$191,268
