The opportunity

The Manager of Global Medical Affairs Operations will report to the Head of Global Medical Affairs (GMA) Operations and will be primarily responsible for overseeing strategic planning and execution of key activities being driven by a product/program-aligned Medical Value Team (MVT), a subteam of the Product Leadership Team (PLT).

Medical Value Teams (MVTs) at Arena are core functional teams in Medical Affairs led by the Medical Value Team Lead. Medical Communications, HEOR, Global Advocacy, Publications and FBMT leads are a core members of this team. This individual may be assigned to one or more MVTs and will serve as the operational lead and partner to the MVT lead. He/she will ensure MVT is aligned with PLT and its sub-teams below it. This individual will have responsibility for ensuring clear and open communication within GMA and between GMA and other functions at Arena.

What you'll dive into

Planning and Project Management

  • Partner with the MVT lead in the development, execution and measurement of medical functional plans with tactics while aligned with cross-functional plans at program/product level

  • Ensure alignment with regional (US, international) medical roles as well as Program Management to ensure alignment on plans and key tactical execution

  • Drive successful and timely completion of MVT deliverables (Objectives and Key Results, OKRs) including Integrated Product Plan (IPP), thought leader (TL) engagement planning and tracking, advisory boards, congress support, publication planning and execution

  • Develop and track MVT budget; partner with Finance representatives

  • Lead goal setting and metrics development (and subsequent tracking)

  • Identify team and program risks and implement and manage mitigation plans as needed (budget, timelines etc.)

Communication

  • Provide direction and guidance to MVT(s) to ensure and global alignment of strategy and deliverables with emphases on Product Leadership Team (PLT) and Commercial Medical Team (CMT) alignment

  • Communicate program status and tactical plan and OKR updates to relevant stakeholders including the PLT, CMT and Medical Affairs Leadership Team (MALT)

Team Operations

  • Proactively plan and manage MVT activities including team meetings, strategic planning, offsites, and team building

  • In partnership w the MVTL, identify, escalate, and monitor resolution of issues and actions

  • Support training and onboarding of new team members

GMA Operations Support

  • Support medical operations initiatives to enable the GMA team to operate efficiently and effectively in the context of continuous improvement

  • Work within cross-functional teams and amongst all corporate functions to ensure smooth operations across GMA

  • Embrace a mindset of continuous improvement and be a leader and change agent in this rapidly growing and evolving organization

  • Ensure compliance mindset and criteria

What we expect

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in a scientifically related field; Master's degree in scientific discipline or MBA preferred.

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in a pharmaceutical or biotech company with experience in Medical Affairs operations or project management roles

  • Experience in developing and executing (and improving if needed) complex processes

  • Good understanding of medical affairs activities and the regulatory environment in which we operate

  • Knowledge of the drug development process with general understanding of other key functions such as Research, Clinical Development, Commercial, Market Access

  • Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to manage multiple complex/layered projects and competing priorities

  • Strong interpersonal skills with experience working with cross-functional teams and ability to successfully communicate complex topics

  • Flexible and willing to take on a variety of responsibilities as the needs of the GMA team grow and evolve

  • Able to demonstrate exceptional follow-through on tasks and projects

  • Independently motivated with strong problem-solving ability

Responsible for providing strong scientific and medical support with an in-depth understanding of the Nuerology medical landscape. Support the development and implementation of the short and long-term strategy, practices and infrastructure within the US aligning with overall Alexion medical affairs strategy and effective cross-functional collaboration. Support the Alexion Global Medical Affairs mission to maximize patient outcomes by setting and continuously advancing the evidence-based medical standard of care. Job Duties & Responsibilities * Develop and implement US strategy and plan for US MA activities for Nuerology by providing medical leadership, insight and strategy to the US Nuerology medical affairs team across various internal functions.
