Primary purpose:

This position is needed to afford geology/geomodelling subject matter expertise to carbon sequestration projects in both feasibility and development stages. This role fits within a multidisciplinary subsurface sequestration development team.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Work in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team of geologists, geophysicists, petrophysicists and reservoir engineers.

  • Contribute to existing model updates and improve quality of the models through continuous evaluation and data integration.

  • Generate plots and reports to communicate progress to management.

  • General Carbon Sequestration industry knowledge.

  • Deal with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy, and professionalism.

  • Speak clearly, both in person and by telephone, using a high level of verbal skills and listen carefully.

  • Maintain regular, dependable attendance and a consistently high level of performance.

  • Will work non-traditional hours as needed.

  • Maintain a high regard for personal safety, for the safety of company assets and employees, and the public.

  • Other daily, weekly, monthly or special project duties as identified and defined.

Job Requirements

Preferred requirements:

Education:

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in Earth Science is required. (PhD is preferred).

Preferred Qualifications/ Experience:

  • Advance Petrel User with experience in workflows.

  • Knowledge of dynamic modeling with Eclipse/CMG would be an advantage.

  • Working knowledge in Geophysics and Petrophysics

Competencies, Skills & Abilities:

  • A minimum of 7 years of hands-on industrial experience in geological modelling is required.

  • Experience in multiple basins is an advantage.

  • Technical skills in wellsite geology, drilling operations, mud logging, LWD/MWD, and wireline operations are required.

  • Relevant experience in areas of hydro-geologic concepts, well operations, mudlogging data interpretation and geophysical data analyses will be an advantage.

  • Knowledge on Petrel skills utilizing 2D, 3D, Interpretation, and well section windows interchangeably and ability to display and interpret multiple data sets.

  • Working knowledge in basic seismic interpretation experience (2D & 3D) in the context of rock and fluid properties; basic understanding of rock physics and how it relates to seismic response, including AVO behavior.

  • Prefer to have some wellsite experience.

  • Must be self-motivated and ambitious, ability to organize and prioritize daily work with the ability to successfully perform multiple tasks with strict deadlines.

  • Individual is capable of problem solving autonomously, but is not afraid to ask questions when he/she arrives at a possible solution that deviates from the stated directions

  • Must be able to perform all essential and marginal functions of the job.

  • Must be able to work with a team, take direction from management, adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.

  • Job level commensurate with experience and skill sets; position will be filled depending on qualifications, experience and skill sets of the successful candidate.

  • Strong leadership skills with a history of leading teams to complete projects. A history of executing projects with challenging circumstances is preferred

  • Experience developing and managing budget

Certifications, Licenses & Registrations:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).

  • Predominantly office environment, some travel to field operations or other Company offices.

  • Must have high school education

Working Conditions:

  • Occasional field site visits.

  • The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, including credit report for certain positions, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.

  • Working after hours, nights, weekends, holidays as needed.
