Position Summary

Provide overall management and direction in the areas of accounting and financial reporting (internal and external), with primary focus on internal accounting operations. Provide leadership in the interpretation of accounting information from the Natural Chart of Accounts to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commissions' Uniform System of Accounts. Lead Company personnel in understanding and complying with the processes, which facilitate the achievement of company financial goals and objectives.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Ensure the timely and accurate accounting close each month using the General Ledger system and confirming appropriate pass-through to the regulatory ledger. Oversee development, refinement, and oversight of accounting policies, procedures and standards.

  • Provide proactive analysis and support to Operations and Finance. Develop and maintain relationships with Operations and Finance.

  • Assist and direct staff in preparation of various mandatory external financial reports of the Company to FERC, state regulators and shareholders and others. Ensure compliance with various reporting and accounting requirements for such reports. Provide support to external auditors as necessary.

  • Provide education, training, and support to business area related to accounting policies. Ensure pertinent accounting policies and procedures are implemented and applied. Coordinate the implementation of new accounting requirements.

  • Development and maintenance of standard recurring journal entries. Prepare and review month-end account reconciliations accurately and timely.

  • Attract, recruit, and retain highly trained and motivated staff. Establish and communicate clear performance expectations.

  • Maintain documentation and perform testing of Sarbanes Oxley controls. Coordinate internal and external audit activities.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or equivalent.

  • MBA and/or CPA preferred.

  • Minimum five years of experience in various job-related areas such as accounting, financial analysis, reporting, budgeting, and business and strategic planning.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and FERC regulatory accounting requirements.

  • This position requires the ability to effectively use computer financial systems, Microsoft Office Suite, demonstrated planning, analytical, problem solving skills and ability to work extended hours.

  • Oral and written communication skills are critical.

  • Supervisory experience is preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to motivate others and promote a team environment.

The Accounting Manager, General Ledger provides guidance and supervision to accounting staff members and is a key member of the accounting leadership group. Essential Functions and Work Responsibilities Functional Category: Accounting Administration and Oversight Estimated Percent of time Spent - 70% * Manage the daily operations of the g/l department to ensure timely execution of all applicable responsibilities and effectively manage direct reports and provide, by example and leadership, motivation and direction to employees of the organization. * Identify and implement best in class accounting close processes and procedures. * Instrumental in coordinating all aspects of accounting integration from identification of needs early on in the acquisition process to final integration of accounting activities. * Understand, interpret and communicate information/data to improve efficiencies and performance and continually identifies process improvements and executes on implementation of such improvements. * Analyze and interpret complex accounting transactions in accordance with (GAAP) rules and regulations. * Review financial statements and provide variance analysis. * Review account reconciliations in order to analyze and ensure documentary evidence and financial transaction integrity. * Supervise the preparation of various accounting entries related to the operation of the company to permit the timely issuance of the monthly and annual trial balance, balance sheet, income statement, general ledger, and detail ledgers for all companies. * Update and develop and document effective, efficient and scalable accounting process and procedures. * Review monthly journal entries. * Assist with monthly general ledger close. * Prepare financial statements and other accounting reporting on a monthly and annual basis and ensure that financial statements are in compliance with GAAP, InnovAge policies/procedures and governmental requirements. Functional Category: Supervision Estimated Percent of time Spent - 30% * Effectively supervises and manages direct reports and provides, by example and leadership, motivation and direction to employees of the organization. * Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable state and federal employment laws. * Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; recognizing and rewarding employees; corrective disciplinary procedures and practices (under direction of supervisor and in partnership with Human Resources), addressing complaints and resolving problems. * Ensures annual employee performance reviews are conducted in a timely and effective manner.
