We make the world safer - and you can, too. What You'll Do in This Position Manager of Fire Protection Engineering. Primary responsibility of this position is to provide oversight of the SRNS Fire Protection Program by establishing and executing a fire prevention and fire protection measures program that minimizes the likelihood of a fire-related event and the consequences of a fire-related event affecting the public, workers, environment, property, and missions, and to provide a level of fire safety protection consistent with the highly protected risk class of industrial insurable risks.

Responsibilities include managing the development of technical documents to include Fire Hazards Analyses, Fire Scenario Documents, Equivalencies and Exemptions to Code requirements and Technical Reports. This includes monitoring, assessing, and influencing the performance of fire protection technical oversight and engineering support for multiple facilities by managing fire protection programs, schedules, budget, and personnel to ensure safe and efficient operation. Serve as the Fire Protection Program manager by integrating the various fire protection program organizations through oversight, communication, and subject matter expertise.

Interface with senior level management in facilities across the Savannah River Site, Nuclear and Criticality Safety Engineering, the SRNS Design Agency, Senior Engineering and Operations Management, the Independent Evaluation Board, and external groups such as DOE-HQ and representatives with the DNFSB. Major Responsibilities These responsibilities are intended to describe the primary elements of the position as a whole; not to describe any one position in its entirety. Additionally, since this position directly supports the Director, some or all of these items may be a shared, or fully delegated responsibility.

Safety is a primary responsibility. Obtain safety training, obey safety rules. and make safety an integral part of each task. Take the necessary steps to stop work if continuing the job is unsafe or will create an unsafe condition and ensure employees meet safety expectations.

Ensure a Fire Protection and Emergency Response Program is implemented that includes fire prevention and fire protection measures and physical protection of DOE owned and leased facilities at SRS. Interface with facility personnel to include Chief Engineers and Facility Managers and DOE-SR personnel to ensure fire protection program goals are being met. Recruit and assign appropriately skilled personnel and provide adequate resources to meet site objectives.

Ensure the performance of all personnel administrative functions such as salary planning, performance appraisals and training. Direct career development and professional advancement for personnel by ensuring planning and mentoring of individuals' training programs is in place. Ensure a comprehensive fire protection self-assessment program is established and that required assessments and management field observations are being performed, and appropriate follow-up actions are being taken to improve the organization.

Ensure that the appropriate engineering rigor and technical conscience is being applied in the decision-making process, and that the concept of conservative decision making is fully understood within the organization.

Ensure the organization is properly executing design authority responsibilities through review and approval of process and equipment system improvements (including new technology) to improve safety, maintainability, product quality, system quality, system efficiency, and environmental compliance. Security Clearance Information SRNS is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, criminal records, and employment history, and education verifications.

Positions with SRNS may require applicants to obtain and maintain a DOE L or Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. Factors such as pre-employment background review results, dual citizenship status, and unpaid and/or unfiled taxes may impact your ability to obtain a security clearance. Clearance Required to Perform Job L Qualifications We Require BS degree in Engineering or related technical degree Other Qualifications Must be able to obtain and/or maintain a security clearance, if required. Demonstrated engineering ability on facility systems and processes; demonstrated leadership and organizational capabilities; knowledge of company policies and administrative practices; knowledge of nuclear and criticality safety principles and their application to facilities; technical knowledge of facility process and support systems; knowledge of facility Safety Basis; and working knowledge of regulatory requirements. Must be able to apply engineering judgment, often in complex situations, to determine acceptability of proposed solutions.

Qualifications We Desire Experience in fire protection, experience working at a DOE site, and knowledge of DOE Orders and Standards related to Fire Protection are preferred. Bachelors Degree in Fire Protection preferred.
