Description

The Manager of Financial Operations/Associate Controller supports the Director of Financial Operations/Controller in ensuring effective, efficient University operations and successful audit outcomes through effective management of assigned financial/accounting processes and personnel. The Assistant Controller will be a key contributor to the Parker University Business Office team. This individual will be responsible for accurate, timely, consistent financial information for the operations of the University. They will also be responsible for monitoring an effective internal control system over financial reporting. The Assistant Controller will lead the following teams: Accounts Payable, General Accounting, and Payroll.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

  • Ensure the integrity of the University's financial records, and that the transactions entered into the University's general ledger are recorded in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;

  • Oversee payroll process and ensure timely, accurate payments to employees;

  • Oversee accounts payable process, ensuring timely accurate payments to vendors;

  • Research and resolve accounting issues in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and analyze the effect of new accounting guidance on the University;

  • Review agreements entered into by the University to ensure appropriate accounting under Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;

  • Assist in the preparation of the annual financial statements and related footnotes, including preparing certain complex statements and footnotes;

  • Coordinate the annual external audit of the University's financial statements and other required financial compliance reports. Includes preparing work papers, reports, and analysis related to the University's operations for internal and external audits;

  • Support the Controller in the development and maintenance of accurate, complete, timely financial statements and other financial information;

  • Review monthly journal entries prepared by the accounting team;

  • Review month end account reconciliations prepared by the accounting team;

  • Maintain the integrity of the financial reporting process and financial controls;

  • Assist in special projects as requested and communicate status of projects

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/EXPERTISE:

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in accounting or related field with 6 years of relevant accounting experience or a master's degree in accounting or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

  • CPA or similar credential (or the ability to achieve).

  • Six to eight years' of increasingly responsible professional experience and management.

  • Command of GAAP with a demonstrated ability to quickly learn specialized GAAP or similar compliance standards.

  • Knowledge of accounting standards related to not for profits and universities, and federal, state, and local laws and regulations are preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Visual acuity to use a keyboard and view a computer terminal. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp.

  • May require ordinary ambulatory skills enough to visit other locations; or the ability to stand and walk.

  • Ability to occasionally lift, carry and/or move light to medium weight up to twelve (12) pounds and/or exert up to twelve (12) pounds of force.
