What you'll do The Manager Field Engineering - Aviation, is a key member of ViaSat's Commercial Airline and Business Aviation Support team, which helps deliver and maintain ViaSat's best-in-class "ViaSat In-Flight Connectivity (IFC)" services to our Commercial Airline customers. The day-to-day This role plays a critical part in the service launch of new customers while maintaining the installed systems for our onboard IFC solutions.

You'll ensure all work is carried out following Viasat procedures and airline manuals, while following FAA and local regulations.

You will provide training, on-site and remote support to airline maintenance representatives during the installation, activation and maintenance of equipment including software loads and updates. You will also manage metrics and KPIs, and present to internal stakeholders and customers regarding technical field issues and work with our airline partners to support and close daily maintenance issues.

Responsibilities include: Supervise and provide technical support for personnel performing scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on the IFC system Ensure documentation and records of all aircraft maintenance work performed are completed to meet company, airline partner and FAA regulations as well as ensure all tooling and test equipment is up to date Assist in the development of a maintenance and preventative maintenance program and in the analysis of system reliability and make recommendations based on findings Travel to customer maintenance locations on short notice to support troubleshooting and repair operations, and provide IFC training to maintenance vendors and airline personnel Provide remote assistance to support diagnostic checks on IFC equipment installed on customer aircraft, respond to service inquiries related to installation and maintenance and ensure all documentation and equipment required to maintain IFC services remain updated Communicate with Airline Operations Managers, Quality Assurance, Materials management and contract maintenance to support the repair and maintenance process Lead a staff in support of IFC operations including all administrative functions Create and maintain operational metrics and present status reports to stakeholders Perform other tasks as assigned by the Director of Aviation Support What you'll need 3+ years' technical field engineering or customer support experience to include a minimum of 2 years in a supervisory/management role Consistent record of working with and understand aviation maintenance manuals, maintenance programs, reliability programs, and interpret FAA regulations Ability to work a flexible schedule in a 24x7 environment as needed to support round-the-clock operations Proven verbal and written skills with the ability to present complex technical material to a variety of audiences Bachelor's degree in Aviation, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology or equivalent experience Ability to travel 50% both domestic and international Must be able to acquire a SIDA airport badge The role is based in Carlsbad but may also be remote within the Western United States What will help you on the job Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Certificate and/or previous aircraft maintenance experience Experience and familiarity with UNIX/LINUX configuration, and ability to capture and interpret network traces Experience with hardware and software elements involved in IP networking and satellite communications Demonstrated experience working in a networking environment TCP/IP Validated experience acting as liaison with both Business Aviation and/or Airline customers Experience with RF Satellite or Wireless Communication systems Salary range $99,400.00 - $179,000.00 / annually At Viasat, we consider many factors when it comes to compensation, including the scope of the position as well as your background and experience.
