Position Overview:

Sutter Valley Medical Foundation is a not-for-profit health care organization dedicated to providing the highest level of care for our patients. The Facilities team provides building maintenance and project support to primary and specialty care practices, Diagnostic Imaging centers, Ambulatory Surgery centers, Urgent Care, and Walk-In clinics that provide outpatient services for residents in Sacramento, Placer, El Dorado, and Amador county communities. With care centers across the entire Greater Sacramento market, Sutter Valley Medical Foundation is able to offer high quality medical care close to you and your family.

  • Sacramento is the office location for this role. Travel expected to 25 sites within Sacramento, Placer, El Dorado, and Amador Counties. (Mileage reimbursement) *

Responsible for the facilities department operations and personnel. Oversees and coordinates daily operations of the engineering/facilities management department Duties include but are not limited to, management of life safety systems and documentation in accordance with applicable standards and codes set by the Authority Having Jurisdiction AHJ, supervision of the preventative maintenance program and troubleshooting the physical plant and related equipment within the facility. Supervises specified department staff in the general maintenance of the buildings and grounds, planning and making necessary repairs on equipment. Participates in the preparation and administration of departmental capital and operating budgets.

Job Description:

EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma or General Education (GED) or equivalent education/experience.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AS TYPICALLY ACQUIRED IN:

  • 8 years progressive responsible engineering experience in all aspects of acute or ambulatory healthcare plant operations and maintenance.
  • 8 years supervisory and personnel management experience.

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Management of Operations, Maintenance and Repair Activities:

  • Supervises and implements the preventative maintenance program to ensure uninterrupted operation of the entire physical plant. Monitors its applications to assure maximum effectiveness and provides appropriate documentation of the same.

  • Works closely with other departments and administration. Negotiates priorities, plans work schedules, makes job assignments, orders needed materials, supplies and parts. Recommends use of outside specialty contractors as circumstances indicate.

  • Ensures an appropriate inventory of parts and supplies is maintained to maximize the operational readiness of hospital building systems and equipment with due respect to the limitations of cost, regulations and relative priorities.

  • Recommends the selection and coordination of all maintenance service contractors and ensures all contractual provisions are met, along with established codes.

Personnel Management

  • Maintains personnel files and records, audits timecards and prepares statistical and operating reports, manages employee schedules.

  • By maintaining high standards of excellence, helps the facility fulfill its mission by providing compassionate care and respecting the dignity of others. Applies the principles of "continuous quality improvement" which includes working cooperatively with colleagues and projecting a service orientation toward all.

Management of Approved Department Budget

  • Provides input in developing the annual operating budget, which includes personnel, equipment, utilities, materials and supply needs.

  • Utilizes the financial system reports of all plant operations cost centers to ensure budget compliance throughout the year.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensures departmental participation in the hospital safety/environment of care committees.

  • Ensures required preventative maintenance compliance of life safety systems according to National Fire Prevention Association criteria. Responsible for the development of policies and procedures relative to fire and safety.

  • Responsible for the effective upkeep and maintenance of all plant equipment and facilities in accordance with procedures, standards, and practices of the AHJ, Federal, State, and Local Codes.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • The Chief Engineer/Facility Manager has to have a broad and varied knowledge of equipment, tools, machines, test instruments, personal protective equipment, computers, and vehicles.

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and policy and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of algebra, plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions, area circumference, and volume.

  • Ability to define problems, collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

  • Ability to use computer maintenance management software to process data and create reports and develop trending and manage budgets.

  • Ability to read blueprints, schematic diagrams, interpret instructions and prepare specifications.

  • Must have a working knowledge of electrical distribution and heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) theory and application.

  • Must be able to instruct other Facilities Operations personnel to recognize safety procedures related to equipment operation and repair.

  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.

Pay Range is $57.22 to $85.83 / hour

The salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled. Compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate's experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs. Base pay is just one piece of the total rewards program offered by Sutter Health. Eligible roles also qualify for a comprehensive benefits package.
