NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

Salary Range

$127,900 - $217,400

  • Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

What Your Job Will Be Like

The Facilities Systems Engineering Group, 4920, is looking for an enthusiastic technical leader to be the Manager, Facilities of Department 4924 (Building & Fire Safety)! This manager will have a critical role in implementing Sandia's Corporate Fire Protection Program (CFFP) to meet stringent building, fire, and life safety requirements in 10 CFR 851, Worker Safety and Health, and DOE O 420.1C, Facility Safety.

Sandia is committed to personnel safety and health, protection of the environment and the facilities we are entrusted to protect and support the Laboratories' mission. This position resides in Albuquerque, but it also provides support to other SNL sites (e.g., California, Hawaii, and Nevada) which may require travel in support of work assignments.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Oversee and manage members of the workforce within the department, including maintaining access to sufficient qualified & trained fire protection staff to effectively and efficiently implement the CFPP.

  • Coordinate subordinate employee recruitment, selection, training, performance assessment, work assignments, salary, and recognition and disciplinary actions.

  • Provide workload balance in assignments, an inclusive team structure, and a business rhythm that supports known deliverables and flexibility for unexpected events.

  • For the department, assure individual and team performance against key metrics and reporting.

  • Ensure that Sandia National Laboratories' needs are satisfied by managing and coordinating specific safety system deliverables, overall program and project plans, budgets, structures, schedules, and staffing requirements.

  • Balance the acquisition and development of staff resources, capabilities, and existing and future projects or programs.

  • Lead and manage elements of facilities operations of the fire protection systems, including long-range development, infrastructure site planning, fire protection systems engineering and design program development and execution, building code enforcement and application, and contract requirements.

  • Coordinate closely with the Sandia Authority Having Jurisdiction and Fire Marshal to ensure program assurance and development, benchmarking against industry standard methodologies, technical interfaces, and communications.

  • Apply the concepts of Highly Protected Risk and defense-in-depth in a risked-based approach to follow contractual requirements, to achieve DOE fire safety objectives and mission success, and to drive continuous improvement.

The selected applicant can work a combination of onsite and offsite work. The selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessary.

Qualifications We Require

  • Bachelor's degree in Fire Administration, Fire Protection Engineering, or other relevant field, plus 8 or more years of relevant experience.

  • Three or more years of leadership or managerial experience.

  • Ability to acquire and maintain an active DOE Q-level security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Master's degree in Fire Protection Engineering.

  • Licensed professional engineer in Fire Protection Engineering.

  • Five or more years of experience working in a Fire Protection Engineering environment.

  • Experience in fire service.

  • Experience in working with DOE Orders and Standards.

  • Understanding of Sandia processes, policies and procedures related to procurement and finance.

  • Experience with data analysis and reporting.

  • Knowledge of Sandia's building and infrastructure systems.

  • Active DOE/DOD security clearance.

Security Clearance
