What you'll be doing...

  • Responsible for developing and implementing Verizon's local and state legislative strategy, external affairs and community engagement programs in support of company goals and positions across all business units enterprise-wide with a focus on issues involving technology deployment.

  • Responsible for representing Verizon and influencing policy makers at the local level in California.

  • Accountable for strengthening Verizon's political impact, brand and reputation using extensive government and advocacy experience and network.

  • Supports Verizon state legal, regulatory and government affairs team to influence decisions that may impact local initiatives.

  • Responsibilities relate to identifying and influencing proposed local and state legislative activities.

  • Plans and executes strategies to ensure that any local legislation has a positive or neutral impact on the company.

  • Interacts with local community organizations and other third-party community influencers.

  • Keeps management informed of pending local legislation.

  • Serves as primary strategic liaison accountable for outreach to company affiliations, special business and third-party groups.

  • Provides team direction on communicating key messages and strategic initiatives to stakeholders.

  • Plans and develops strategic messaging.

  • Represents Verizon in a variety of forums including providing testimony at committee meetings/hearings that address legislation impacting Verizon.

  • Compiles competitive intelligence.

What we're looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.

  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.

  • Experience in advocacy/issues management and coalition-building.

  • Knowledge of regulatory and legislative processes at the local and state level.

  • Willingness to travel within territory.

  • Willingness to work both during normal business hours, as well as, evenings and weekends should the circumstances require availability.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree.

  • Four or more years of external experience in public affairs, public policy, lobbying, external affairs or other local/community focused disciplines.

  • Demonstrated communications skills, both verbal and written and capability to communicate effectively with business units across the company as well as with third parties.

  • Demonstrated skills in negotiating issues in support of corporate goals and objectives.

  • Current, strong network of California contacts with local government officials and community organizations.

  • Capability to be a self-starter with intellectual curiosity.

  • Organizational and planning skills.

  • Ability to work with all levels of management.

  • Knowledge concerning economic regulation in the communications, cable, or utilities industries.

  • Broad knowledge of Verizon operations and business functions or extensive positioning already established in territory.

  • Experience in the development, management and advocacy of telecommunications policies and positions.

  • Experience working for a lobbying or law firm with a lobbying practice.

Position Summary: Responsible for the day-to-day account management for 25 routine/moderately complex client accounts, typically $125K or less in annual revenue. Manages an assigned book of business, covering multiple industries and client locations, building, expanding, and solidifying relationships with existing clients. Primarily focused on delivering exceptional service to all clients within book. Solves common issues and identifies client concerns/opportunities and drives solutions with limited guidance. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: * Serves as single point of contact for clients; highly responsive to requests and has demonstrated ability to solve common AM challenges (e.g., banking, reports, etc.) providing leverage to his/her manager. * Develops client trust and confidence. * Renews own accounts of low to moderate complexity with limited assistance. * Organizes and leads effective group meetings on behalf of client(claims reviews). * Facilitates discussions effectively, selling value of GB services. * Perceived as critical link between client, management and claims operations. * Requires minimal levels of supervision in areas like responsiveness, renewal planning/delivery and analytics. * Obtains data through internal tools and manipulates to identify trends and meaningful information for clients. * Executes and presents analysis results proficiently. * Demonstrates effective project management skills by conveying and managing what and when deliverables from others are needed. * Stays current on company and industry developments. Required: * Bachelor's Degree * 3 or more years related experience * Insurance license * Solid understanding of risk, insurance, and claims Desired: * Strong working knowledge of GB products and services. * Has completed training and/or certification courses to demonstrate knowledge in these areas. * Able to travel approximately 30% - 35%. * Industry designations highly preferred.
