Overview

This position will manage all aspects of a facility's employee safety, welfare and pandemic management strategies and programs. Is responsible for the facility's pandemic & employee welfare and health and safety strategic planning, program implementation and compliance. In conjunction with corporate health, safety and OSHA compliance champions, develops corporate pandemic response plans & EHS plan and educates and facilitates training of all employees on employee health, welfare and safety. Monitors, audits, identifies deficiencies, and collaboratively implements issue resolution strategies and continually assesses the effectiveness of EHS programs. This position mandates the incumbent have a bias for action. The incumbent must be collaborative, creative, visionary and relentless in leadership and the management of pandemic, employee health and welfare, and safety matters.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates in the development of corporate pandemic & EHS vision and mission and strategic plans that establish a best-in-class/best practices. Strategically integrates pandemic & EHS-focused and strongly performing work environment for the management of pandemic and all EHS matters.

  • Is the facility SME leader responsible for aggressively implementing strategies to minimize the impact pandemic illness in the facility.

  • Leads and models corporate vision for illness protection & response strategies and EHS protection, response & achievement excellence.

  • Assists corporate EHS with the quantification of and impact assessment of pandemic events and exposure to potential EHS occupational health hazards.

  • Identifies and monitors pandemic and EHS hazard situations, often including risk categorization, and develops and implements strategies for remediation.

  • Minimizes pandemic and other hazards and proactively reduces employee welfare and safety risks in the workplace.

  • Communicates and collaborates with facility leadership to educate, implement and react to illness and other employee welfare and safety issues.

  • Creates and tracks safety-related objectives, metrics, and goals for the facility.

  • Oversees and supervises shift safety coordinators to assure all aspects of EHS education including illness prevention and illness-specific protocols and compliance are achieved on all shifts.

  • Investigates incident or near-misses and lead root cause analysis.

  • Enforces safety standards and processes.

  • Creates, education and assure compliance with facility Occupational Health and Safety Policy.

  • Drives employee engagement and meaningful involvement specific to pandemic illness and all areas of EHS.

  • Creates, maintains, and improves policies and systems related to employee welfare and safety designed to create a culture of continuous improvement.

  • Performs regular patrols, inspections, evaluations, and/or walk-throughs of facilities and/or properties for EHS, Safety and illness prevention compliance.

  • Conducts toolbox meeting and other ongoing learning opportunities for staff.

  • Assures all staff-from temp, contract workers to regular employees-have completed necessary training and are equipped for roles.

  • Promotes and reinforces safe behaviors across projects and jobs.

  • Takes measures to drive accountability for safety.

  • Organizes and maintain all safety and compliance-related forms.

Safety of our employees is our highest priority, especially in today's world helping to prevent the spread of Covid19 throughout our facility. Qualified candidate will identify, develop, implement, audit and supervise the objectives, policies, planning, and training, which comprise the facility-wide safety, health and loss prevention programs. Facilitate DC Safety committee, DC Emergency Response team and Safety Steering committee. Serve as Safety resource for DC leadership team and employees. Responsibilities 50% of Time: Leads the facility safety programs. Serves as a resource and facilitator to the Safety Committee, Plant Emergency Response Team, and other teams which comprise the safety and risk management process. Ensures meeting minutes are maintained as needed. Provides leadership in the development of facility goals and monthly safety statistics, and reports plant results in a timely manner. Accountable for all Lock-Out-Tag-Out, Ergonomic, Key Concepts of Safety, Job Safety Analysis, Powered Industrial Truck, Chemical/Hazardous Material Handling, Electrical Safety, Confined Space Entry, and Elevated work program compliance. 20% of Time: Coordinates all accident/incident, Find It/Fix it and Near Miss investigations; completes necessary safety/investigative documentation, communicates findings and manages corrective actions with leadership, Safety Committee and employees. 20% of Time: Provide Safety and other assigned training materials to all employees, including but not limited to: Loss Prevention, Hazardous conditions identification, Powered Equipment operations, safety at home and Emergency Response. Monitor, track and communicate compliance to the HBI Safety Training Matrix. 10% of Time: Monitor, track and communicate compliance with the HBI safety audit process. Qualifications Education: Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent Preferred: Bachelor in EHS or Related Field Years of Experience: Required: 1 year of experience Preferred: 2+ years with relevant BA/BS Degree Knowledge, Skills, and Experience: * Knowledge of Federal, State and local safety and environmental regulations * Strong analytical and management skills * Strategic and critical thinking skills to conduct investigations * Strong computer skills (i.e. MS Office suite). Competencies and Behaviors: * Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage with employees, leadership and vendors/governmental agencies. * Ability to build rapport with employees and leadership; lead with influence without positional authority * Ability to understand and drive PIT and DC equipment safety programs * Ability to adapt to, and be a proponent for change. * Ability and willingness to help develop company policies and procedures.
