Overview

Allweather Wood Company, LLC. is seeking a Manager, Environmental Health and Safety to join our team in Washougal, WA! The base salary for this position is $70,000.00 to $100,000.00. Your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic locations, skills, education and/or experience. Please keep in mind that that the range published is the full base salary. We also offer a generous benefits package.

Allweather Wood is the largest producer and distributor of waterborne preservative treated wood products in the Western USA. Operating six wood preserving plants in California, Colorado, Oregon, Utah, and Washington, these state-of-the-art facilities enable year-round production of a variety of preservative systems, fire retardants and wood species, including Douglas-fir, Hem fir, and Southern Yellow Pine. With support from two full-service distribution centers in California, Allweather Wood partners with home improvement retailers, lumberyards, and building material dealers to bring a full range of preservative and fire-retardant lumber and plywood products to market.

Under the direction of Director, Environmental and Safety this position develops, implements, and reviews safety programs and policies to ensure compliance with federal, state, local regulations, and Company Policies. Maintains and encourages a safe behavioral culture and an environmentally responsible working environment. Directly responsible for managing Safety and Loss Control programs for company facilities. Works closely with Director or designee for environmental management and initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate implementation/facilitation of safety policies, procedures and programs including applicable training programs and recordkeeping requirements.

  • Provide regulatory and technical assistance to site management and supervisors.

  • Review and maintain an Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP), providing raining as appropriate.

  • Establish and provide oversight of the safety record keeping requirements, including but not limited to the maintenance of employee safety files, Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and OSHA records.

  • Perform routine reviews to evaluate site compliance with safety policies, programs, procedures, systems, and regulations.

  • Monitor employee exposure to safety hazards and make recommendations to resolve or reduce.

  • Develop and implement employee safety and hazard communication training (HAZCOM).

  • Manage and model all aspects of a Behavior Based Safety Program, including audits, recordkeeping, observations, and communication to employees.

  • Integrate health and safety considerations into design, implementation and execution of capital projects and operational modifications through a Design Safety Review Management of Change system.

  • Establish and maintain personal protective equipment requirements for business units.

  • Develop and maintain safety contingency plans (fires, spills, emergency response).

  • Monitor and ensure compliance of governmental regulations and insurance industry requirements and act as company representative with regulatory agencies.

  • Prepare studies and analyses of industrial accident causes and hazards to health.

  • Inspect company facilities to identify potential accident and health hazards, recommend corrective or preventative measures, assist in implementation and track to ensure implementation

  • Provide information, signs, posters, barriers, and other materials to warn of safety hazards or prevent access under hazardous conditions.

  • Enhance and manage company process for investigation of accidents and injuries assisting in the preparation of materials and evidence required for the process

  • Compile and submit accident reports required by regulatory agencies.

  • Compile, investigate and report to onsite injury/illness portal.

  • Detailed knowledge of and understanding of federal, state and local EHS regulations is required. Specifically EPA,TIER II, TIR, RCRA, and TURBO WASTE.

  • Knowledge of RCRA Subpart W requirements, Drip Pads, procedures, and dangerous waste regulations.

  • Knowledge of dangerous waste codes and building profiles for each waste stream throughout the sites for manifest.

  • Serves as an emergency coordinator for chemical/fire/health at all sites.

  • Coordinate with all sites on sprinkler/backflows/alarm systems to insure professional reporting to local agencies.

  • Assist Human Resources with the administration of the workers' compensation program, including work with the insurance carrier to manage claims and participate in claim reviews.

  • Accompany, as applicable employees to testing and physician appointments.

  • Develop and implement a modified duty or return to work (RTW) program.

  • Provide support regarding training and/or monitoring DOT requirements for trucking fleet.

  • Provide environmental support including storm water monitoring, inspections, sampling, and reporting; solid waste management; hazardous waste inspections, manifesting, characterization, compliance with air, water, and waste permits.

  • Manage the interaction with government agencies during inspections, permitting, and routine meetings.]

  • Ensure all safety training programs are current and effectively communicated to employees.

  • Knowledge of DOT Hazardous Waste inspection and enforcement.

  • Maintain OSHA 300 logs for all AWW facilities, and submittal in OSHA database.

  • Support Managers, EHS, and Safety Pro's in Oregon, Washington, Colorado, and Utah.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Safety Sciences or related field from four-year College or university

  • Minimum of five years related experience and/or training.

  • Strong knowledge of OSHA / Washington L&I, Oregon/Colorado/Utah DEQ. Washinton state Dept. of Ecology. Washington SWCAA.

  • Experience and commitment to developing and implementing a safety culture committed to risk reduction.

  • Experience involving components of Environmental compliance and related tasks, is preferred.

  • Training in basic hazardous waste, stormwater, and familiarity with permit requirements is an added plus.

  • Must maintain and carry a valid Washington Clean driver license and remain eligible and capable of operating company vehicles including automobiles and trucks in accordance with company policy guidelines.

  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Travel Requirements

  • Position travels locally, usually within 200 miles one way.

  • Occasional travel to other company, vendor, and agency locations, will be required.

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to walk, sit for long periods of time, and communicate.

  • The employee is occasionally required to stand; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or lift.

  • The employee is regularly required to use wrists and fingers to type for long periods of time.

  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Policy is 45lbs.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

  • This position may perform tasks of a repetitive nature.

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles.

  • The employee is frequently exposed to vibration.

  • The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

  • This position requires wearing eye protection, hearing protection, safety shoes, hard hat, leather or rubber gloves, sleeve protection, leather aprons and face shields.
