About the Job
Reporting to the Director of Environmental, Health and Safety, the Manager, Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) establishes, executes, and oversees the EHS programs at our Research Triangle Park (RTP) lab site. In cooperation with site leadership and key stakeholders, our ideal candidate will develop and lead the site's EHS strategy to meet corporate EHS goals and objectives. This role will also collaborate with the broader EHS team to mature our growing environmental, health, and safety related policies, procedures, and programs at the site's clinical laboratory, office, and supply chain environments. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining, reviewing, and implementing EHS procedures specially customized for the unique needs of FMI, and ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies. A key aspect of the role will focus on promoting culture of safety and supporting the development and implementation of FMI's emerging EHS Management System.
Key Responsibilities
Provide leadership required to foster a culture of EHS excellence through effective communication and employee engagement.
Support the development and lead implementation of all EHS programs, policies, and management system at the RTP location.
Conduct routine inspections of lab and support spaces for unsafe conditions and work practices, ensure action items are completed in a timely manner and unsafe conditions are remedied immediately.
Develop and perform annual risk assessments, job hazard analysis, and general EHS assessments as required by the business.
Develop and coordinate formal industrial hygiene monitoring strategies for existing and future procedures to protect our employees and workplaces and maintain regulatory compliance.
Lead EHS Incident and Accident investigations and root cause analysis, provide recommended corrective actions, and tracking incident metrics.
Provide safety-related training, such as new employee safety orientation, laboratory safety training and facility tour, and program-specific training.
Act as the regulatory point of contact for any state and federal audits.
Manage site specific EHS permits.
Track and measure EHS KPI's, communicating performance to key stakeholders.
Drive involvement of the site Safety Committee, fostering the participation, awareness, and accountability of EHS culture at the site.
Oversee the contractor safety program, ensuring site specific training requirements are met for all vendors, contractors, and contingent workers.
Coordinate the site Ergonomics program, managing and tracking ergonomic requests, evaluations, and equipment.
Oversee the emergency evacuation program, manage the site's evacuation warden program, and coordinate annual evacuation drills
Act as the EHS subject matter expert on a cross functional team for capital projects.
Participate in an on-call rotation that provides 24/7 coverage and emergency response to EHS related incidents.
Coordinate and work closely with our in-house Occupational Health team on workplace injury management, worker's compensation, and return to work process.
Collaborate with the local and corporate Security team and site Facilities team.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:

Master's Degree in a relevant field
Two years of management experience
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Strong, effective oral and written communication skills.
Professional certification (CSP, CIH)
OSHA HAZWOPER Certification, completion of DOT HAZMAT Transportation Training
Membership in local or national professional safety organization
Prior Experience:
With EHS Management Systems and continual improvement (ISO)
Working in a regulated environment, including FDA, CAP, and/or CLIA
Serving as a core member of the site Incident Response Team
With x-ray related laboratory equipment and Radiation Safety Programs
Demonstrated ability to manage an emergency response in crisis situations
Demonstrated understanding of clinical laboratory environment
Demonstrated application and interpretation of OSHA, EPA, and NC DEQ regulations
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, managers, and clients
Ability to work well under pressure while maintaining a professional demeanor
Ability to handle multiple tasks at once and work in a fast-paced environment
Demonstrated detail orientation and good problem-solving ability
Strong interpersonal, communication, and influence skills and demonstrated problem solving with other departments and colleagues
Understanding of HIPAA and importance of privacy of patient data
