As the Manager of Engineering Projects, you will provide leadership and direction to a team of industrial engineers responsible for a portfolio of projects, with emphasis on the design, implementation, and start-up of new warehousing and distribution facilities. What you'll do on a typical day:

  • Manage a variety of important and meaningful projects, including balancing schedules, resources, and competencies to ensure success

  • Collaborate with internal functions and external customers to exceed expectations and reach all technical, delivery, and budgetary goals

  • Transform requirements from preliminary client scope and early design concepts to final design, installation, testing and start-up, while overseeing vendors and installation schedules

  • Drive engineering principles for facility design, product flows, storage, and packaging in a high-volume distribution and warehousing operations environment, using the best technology, systems, and methods

  • Build and deliver process documentation for effective transition to operations and other functions

  • Lead design reviews to ensure oversight during the different phases of implementation

  • Develop a culture focused on standardized methodologies and lessons learned

  • Mentor, coach, influence, and develop team talent to ensure the highest level of efficiency and effectiveness

What you need to succeed at XPO:

At a minimum, you'll need:

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field

  • 5 or more years of experience in engineering-related industry

  • 3 years of experience with engineering management

  • Experience with AutoCAD

  • Demonstrated field experience supporting, maintaining, and monitoring labor and equipment efficiencies

  • Experience with project and resource management

  • Experience with Lean tools such as value stream mapping, 5S, and standard work

  • Ability to maintain a safe and clean work environment; adhere to and ensure safe work practices and safety policies for all

  • Availability to travel up to 50% of the time

It'd be great if you also have:

  • Bachelor's degree (Industrial or Mechanical Engineering)

  • Experience with process and simulation tools

  • Prior operations experience

  • Excellent attention to detail; quick learner with creative problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Self-motivated, with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence and guide others in the decision-making processes throughout the project life cycle

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to present organized and thorough information and data appropriate for intended audience

What you'll do on a typical day: * Hire, train, and develop industrial engineering staff; provide technical support and direction to the plant industrial engineers * Develop labor standards, process flow diagrams and job descriptions for both new and existing operations; estimate facility staffing requirements; identify, evaluate, and implement productivity improvements * Support development of commercial proposals by providing cost and pricing analyses, and estimates for facilities, equipment, staffing, and transportation; assist in the preparation of proposals * Document processes, systems, and job descriptions to facilitate operational startups, providing on-site support as required; analyze on-going costs, providing comparisons to prior cost and price estimates * Select the correct model for receipt, put away, picking, and packing solutions; identify storage and picking strategy based on product dims and activity levels; convert contract documents and SOW into work instructions and operating procedures * Identify facility design requirements based on activity levels, product envelope, product flow, transportation methods, building layout, and power requirements; specify material handling and storage equipment solutions, and use of automation where justified * Collaborate with IT resources to develop equipment requirements based on activity levels Conduct time study analysis to establish production standards for department processes What you need to succeed at XPO: At a minimum, you'll need: * Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering or closely related field * 7 years of operations and distribution-related experience * Experience in Lean Mythology and AutoCAD * Familiarity with Six Sigma practices and principles * Ability to travel up to 50% It'd be great if you also have: * SQL experience Be part of something big.
