The Manager

  • Engineering, Customer Data Platform partners with Marketing and Customer focused teams across the organization to build and evolve a robust and highly scalable platform unifying rich datasets to be consumed by our partners and applications. As a $4.5 Billion retailer with global operations, you will be responsible for leading customer and marketing related initiatives enabling the use of data as an asset. The Manager will pro-actively problem solve and serve as a subject matter expert for Customer, Marketing and Personalization marketplaces and will work closely with business stakeholders. You will work closely with IT Security and Legal teams to improve the quality and value of customer data, respond to regulatory protection requirements as well as support the strategic requirements of a data driven organization.


  • Define the technology strategy, architecture plan and roadmap; lead the implementation of the Customer Data Platform across brands that delivers personalized experience to Customers

  • Support and execute customer data strategy for the Marketing organization, engaging with and working across technical teams both internal and external

  • Collaborate closely with business leadership to ensure continual alignment around the development, maintenance, access, use, security and retention of data

  • Support data and its consumption to provide new and innovative insights and recommendations to AEO business partners to foster a culture of data driven decision making

  • Maintain deep hands-on experience with Customer Relationship Marketing (CRM) technical concepts and tools including relational databases, data integration, analytic modeling, campaign management and BI/reporting systems

  • Work within and across agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions across a full stack of development tools and technologies

  • Manage data infrastructure and strategic decisions to grow and support the team as well as the organization as it relates to Customer Data

  • Build and establish strong working relationships by providing timely, accurate and high-quality information to peers, direct reports, executive management and/or customers

  • Hire, manage and grow a team of technical experts that build and operate secure, durable, flexible and accessible solutions


  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline or related field

  • 5+ years of experience building data platforms; experience building a customer data platform (CDP)

  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and related solutions; data infrastructure, public clouds

  • Experience building data ingestion pipelines including streaming technologies for analytics solutions a plus

  • In depth understanding of relevant development languages, tools, frameworks, utilities, and technical dependencies

  • Knowledge of marketing automation, advertising technologies for experimentation, personalization, attribution and analytics

  • Experience in team building, recruiting and managing engineers and data professionals

The newly formed enterprise Client and Employee Experience team is looking to create a renewed focus on the client and employee experience across the bank by understanding end to end journeys across key moments of truth, taking an outside in perspective in everything we do, and creating meaningful and emotional interactions to improve clients/employees' overall financial health and satisfaction with KeyBank. To increase loyalty, listening and understanding to our clients/employees' needs, perceptions, and expectations and tying CX measurements to business strategy and outcomes, is critical to our success. As we embark on the next chapter of our client and employee experience journey, we are transitioning Key's current survey and reporting system to the Medallia experience management platform to strengthen our voice of client/employee capabilities. We are looking for a CX Platform Managerto join the Measurement & Insights team, part of the enterprise Client and Employee Experience group. The candidate will leverage his/her in depth knowledge of experience management platforms and client/employee experience discipline to develop and manage the Medallia program roadmap, an enterprise wide solution for over 10,000 employees. We are scheduled to launch our first phase of the Medallia platform in the 2nd quarter of 2021. This candidate will be responsible for the execution of our enterprise implementation until all businesses are converted to Medallia, in addition to supporting any business units that have already migrated. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS * Manage the Medallia implementation until the enterprise is fully migrated, including business requirement development, UAT Testing, and change management. * Overall management of the Medallia vendor relationship. * Collaborate cross-functionally within KeyBank and with the Medallia Managed Services team to design, develop, plan, and execute on the Medallia program roadmap. This roadmap will drive business and operational value across the organization with a tie to KeyBank's overarching business objectives. * Work with the Medallia Managed Services team to define, prioritize, and accelerate roadmap items based on evolving business priorities. * Own the day-to-day relationship with the Medallia Managed Services team holding the team accountable for delivery against the roadmap, efficient use of hours/projects, and positive engagement with KeyBank's resources. * Deploy the latest Medallia Experience Cloud products, features, and functionality across the organization. This includes, but is not limited to, new ways of collecting client feedback, dashboards, close loop workflows, mobile app reporting (MM3 and Voices), Text Analytics, and other Medallia software add-ons. * Collaborate with business partners to identify key questions and leverage Medallia's analytical capabilities to drive insights, action plans, and operational improvements. * Make proactive data driven recommendations to business leaders based on feedback and insights driven through Medallia. * Train internal business teams on new Medallia features/functionality, processes, and best practices for maximizing their engagement. Leverage a 'What's in it for me' approach to gain buy-in and educate users on how Medallia positively impacts the business. * Partner with IT to define data requirements including: data needed to drive business insights in Medallia, how data will be transferred, frequency of transfers, and how the data collected by Medallia is brought back in house and distributed throughout the organization. * Leverage Medallia Health Check to continually monitor the overall health of the program including user engagement, file processing statistics, and other key metrics. * Field ad-hoc questions and requests from key business stakeholders. * Liaison with the Medallia Product Team as needed to share feedback and required improvements to drive business objectives and influence the Medallia Product Roadmap. * Attend Medallia's annual Experience Conference and become an active member in the Medallia User Group to keep up with the latest product innovations, acquisitions, and the impact these could drive within KeyBank's Medallia program. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS * Education: BA/BS in business administration, business information technology, statistics, or a related field * 5+ years experience in enterprise SaaS software, management or IT consulting, product management, project management, market research, or similar experience * Experience in the financial industry is preferred. Must have working knowledge of B2C and B2B solutions * Passion for improving client and employee experiences * Demonstrated success in developing and implementing short and long-term strategic plans with a structured prioritization approach while leading, collaborating, and influencing cross-functionally. * Outstanding communication skills with an ability to communicate to all levels of the organization (e.g., front line workers up to senior executives) * Ability to independently manage multiple projects simultaneously, shift work quickly based on changing business priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment * Highly effective problem solver who can troubleshoot data related issues and act as a liaison with Medallia Managed Services or internal IT teams to quickly resolve * Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail with the ability to set priorities and develop/maintain strong partner relationships * Goal-oriented self-starter with strong desire to innovate and an intellectually curious mindset * Prior vendor management experience, specifically within SaaS, is a plus PREFERRED SKILLS / QUALIFICATIONS * MBA * 3+ years of experience working with Medallia or related Experience Management software solution * Experience working in an Agile or Sprint cycle environment * Strong data analysis skills with an ability to synthesize large sets of data and extract meaningful business insights * Experience in running implementations or ongoing evolution of enterprise SaaS applications (e.g. Experience Management, CRM, ERP, HRMS) * Medallia Admin Certification, Medallia Product Certification, and/or Medallia OCEM Certification * Ideally, this position will be based in our Cleveland, OH location. It may be based in Key Bank's Buffalo, NY office, at another Key Bank location, OR it may have a Work From Home Arrangement IF the selected candidate does not reside in a city with a Key Bank work location.
