The Space Based Infrared System (SBIRS) GEO 5/6 Payload program has an opening for a Deputy Program Manager (DPM) in Azusa, CA. This position is a direct report to the Director of Engineering and Manufacturing and a matrix report to the GEO 5/6 Program Manager.

Responsibilities:

The selected candidate will be responsible for Engineering and Manufacturing execution for the final integration and test of the GEO 5/6 payloads supporting the Program Manager in managing cost, schedule, and technical performance. Additionally, the DPM will work with the Integrated Product Team leads to direct the work of employees assigned to the Program from technical, manufacturing and administrative areas in coordination with the functional organizations.

The DPM will support establishment of milestones and monitor adherence to master plans and schedules, identification of program problems and implementation of solutions, coordination of the preparation of proposals, proposal work statements and specifications. The DPM will act as customer contact for program activities and coordinate program review sessions with the customer.

As the program is currently in the payload integration and test phase, the selected candidate will have strong experience with integration of electro-optic space based payloads, environmental testing of optical payloads, and delivery of system engineering analysis and test verification products. The selected individual should also have demonstrated experience in successfully meeting program objectives in a firm, fixed price contract environment.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering, physics, or other related STEM degree

  • 7 years of technical experience

  • 5 years of experience of Program/Project Management or Functional leadership developing systems or equivalent

  • 5 years of experience leading and developing cross-functional teams

  • 5 years of experience with earned value management system (EVMS)

  • Active DoD Secret clearance must be held and maintained. U.S. Citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in Engineering, physics, or other related STEM degree

  • 10 years of technical experience

  • 8 years of experience of Program/Project Management or Functional leadership developing systems or equivalent

  • 8 years of experience leading and developing cross-functional teams

  • 5 years of experience with earned value management system (EVMS)

  • Direct experience in fixed priced contracts

  • Active DoD Top Secret clearance

Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has an opening for a Manager, Structural Engineering 2 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Azusa, CA. Essential Functions: This position is for a Section Manager supporting the NGC MCS Hardware Engineering department in Azusa, CA. The Mechanical Engineering Section Manager is responsible for both functional management and technical supervision of a Mechanical Engineering group in Azusa, CA. This is a hybrid role balancing program technical demands and people management (10-16 highly capable technical professionals). Functional responsibilities include: ensuring the people, processes, and tools are in place to meet program cost, schedule, and technical performance requirements. The manager is responsible for staffing decisions, training, employee development, performance evaluation, compensation decisions, employee career development, and corrective or disciplinary actions when required. In the functional role, the section manager reports directly to the Director of Hardware Engineering. Technical responsibilities include: technical oversight of the mechanical engineering of space qualified hardware and systems. Areas of aptitude include: subsystem integration, durability and damage tolerance, methods of model validation, primary and secondary structure load paths and design margins, and space certification. The manager will be accountable to program office and IPT leadership for schedule, budget, and technical performance of mechanical engineering tasks. The manager will also be responsible for oversight of technical reviews, analysis and test reports, special projects, trade studies, sustaining activities, MRB, and major customer reviews. The section manager also has performance appraisal responsibilities to guide employee development, improve employee well-being, and add value to the organization. As first line management for many employees, the section manager will enhance and encourage employee development with career advice and training as well as notifying employees when suitable career advancement positions are available. The ideal candidate should have strong communications skills and the ability to connect to direct reports and internal customers on multiple levels. Basic Qualifications: * Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace or Aeronautical Engineering, Material Science or Physics from an accredited university. * 5 years of combined experience in mechanical engineering, design, structural analysis, and testing. * Experience in leading project and/or tiger teams * Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance or higher. U.S. Citizenship is required. Preferred Qualifications: * Master's degree or above in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Aeronautical Engineering from an accredited university with an emphasis in space flight equipment and/or vehicle structures. * A working knowledge of CAD and FEA applications (CREO, Nastran) * 10 years of work experience in the area of spacecraft bus or payload loads, structural dynamics analysis and launch environment * Advanced knowledge of detailed space-flight loads, transportation loads, fatigue spectra, flight and ground testing * Participation in multiple design and analysis cycles in spacecraft development programs * Ability to generate PDR and CDR analysis data package and present to NASA/Air Force customers * Prior management/leadership position is highly desired. * A strong understanding of load paths, free-body loads, and initial sizing approaches for metals and composites. * Ability to master the use of various analysis tools and to teach others how to properly and efficiently use them. * Proven track record in developing solutions to difficult problems that are rigorous, innovative, affordable, and consistent with program objectives. * Coordinates through clear communication with other disciplines. * Able to evaluate engineering products for conformity to standards, procedures, and specifications. * Demonstrated leadership experience in a product development environment * An active DoD Secret clearance with an investigation date within the last 5 years is preferred.
