Job Summary: The Emergency Department Manager is responsible for the management and coordination of the Emergency Department (ED) operations. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality patient care, maintains compliance with regulatory standards, manages department staff, and optimizes departmental performance. The ED Manager works closely with medical staff, hospital administration, and other departments to provide effective and efficient emergency services.Key Responsibilities:1.Operational Management: * Oversee day-to-day operations and activities of the department. * Ensure the availability and proper inventory of supplies required for the department's operation. * Oversee safety measures to prevent accidents and injuries to patients, staff, or equipment.2.Employee Management: * Manage all aspects of employee relations including interviewing, hiring, orientation, training, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions. * Promote staff development activities and ensure compliance with hospital policies and procedures. * Responsible for the Emergency Department staffing schedule, and ensures adequate staffing is present for department operations.3.Quality and Compliance: * Lead and participate in performance improvement activities within the department. * Monitor, review, and update departmental policies and procedures to align with regulations and industry standards. * Ensure compliance with all contracts and regulatory requirements, including Level IV Trauma Designation, Medcom protocols, and EMTALA regulations. * Review and monitor medication discrepancies and controlled substance inventories per hospital policy.4.Financial Management: * Manage the department's budget, including staffing, revenue, and expenses. * Reconcile department patient charges. * Complete personnel timecards accurately and ensure employee pay is in accordance with FLSA and UMH Policies.5.Strategic Planning: * Identify strategic goals and anticipate future demands, opportunities, and constraints. * Successfully deliver results for departmental goals and performance benchmarks. * Maintain membership and actively participate or lead hospital committees or subcommittees as needed.6.Trauma Coordination: * Maintain regulations to retain the hospital's Level IV Trauma Designation. * Monitor ED physicians to ensure designated benchmarks are met. * Attend at least 75% of STRAC meetings as the hospital representative and Trauma Coordinator.7.Clinical Duties:*
  • Perform all Registered Nurse duties within the RN scope of practice. * Provide RN staffing as needed. * Assist physicians with procedures as needed, personally or through the provision of qualified staff. * Assist with community education as needed. * Perform duties as House Supervisor as required.Qualifications: * Bachelor's of Science degree in Nursing (preferred). * Current RN license in the state of Texas (required). * Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience in an emergency department setting (preferred). * At least 2 years of management or leadership experience in a healthcare setting (preferred). * Strong knowledge of emergency department operations, clinical practices, and regulatory requirements. * Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. * Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. * Proficiency in healthcare management software and Microsoft Office Suite.Functional Job RequirementsJob requirements include, but are not limited to: sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending, squatting and reaching.
