Position Overview

The Manager, Direct Purchasing will oversee a team of buyers, direct the team to collaborate with supply chain and other cross functional teams and manage the intricacies of the procure to pay process as it relates to either the direct Purchasing strategy or process. A strong supply chain background and understanding of the different requirements of Purchasing strategies is required and passion for team management, training, cross functional collaboration, and development of team members is required for this role. The scope of work will vary and will require working with a diverse team of cross functional stakeholders to support Exact Sciences' growing business and facilities.

The Manager, Direct Purchasing is expected to provide leadership in the Purchasing elements of projects with an understanding of impacts to the up and downstream processes such as accounts payable, warehouse, and planning. Areas of focus could include the following, departmental metrics/reporting, enterprise resource planning (ERP) and or Spend management system subject matter expert (SME) for purchasing data, design and development process, quality systems if applicable and overall Purchasing best practices.

Essential Duties

Include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Support 100% product availability for all commercial products through management of the direct Purchasing process.

  • Maintain product availability by monitoring direct Purchasing process and holding external suppliers, Internal teams, and cross functional partners accountable by creating and reviewing metrics to drive accountability and collaboration to improve and maintain processes.

  • Control spend and ensure product availability by 1st level management of suppliers though management of team to tracking delivery to commitment dates, addressing price increase notifications from suppliers, and managing day to day supplier activities.

  • Collaborate with and support cross-functional teams when opportunities arise to partner on processes.

  • Attend cross-functional meetings to support new product initiatives and the resulting Purchasing activities.

  • Support team in the initiation of the change review process for change or obsolescence notifications received from suppliers. Act as first point of contact for complaints needing to be addressed by supplier because of quality systems notifications or complaints.

  • Escalate issues with suppliers to larger Direct supply chain team to collaborate and resolve in a timely and efficient manner.

  • Provide input and feedback on request for proposals (RFPs) and the analysis of proposals as it relates to impacts on Purchasing. Provide input to RFP awards with cross-functional teams.

  • Assist with supplier quality management, including annual reviews, participation in supplier quality audits, and documentation. Support teams' utilization of the QMS as it relates to the direct Purchasing process.

  • Support and develop purchase orders management practices as needed and provide other cross-functional teams with timely updates.

  • Support direct Purchasing site integrations and systems launch.

  • Develop new and maintain existing metrics to measure team performance and service level to requisitioners.

  • Develop and maintain documentation to ensure compliance with all regulatory and compliance standards. Ensure teams training and effective execution of documented processes.

  • Manage multiple concurrent tasks and deal with changing priorities while maintaining personal effectiveness.

  • Effectively manage, support, and guide your team, including, but not limited to delegating tasks and responsibilities, assessing employee performance, and providing helpful feedback and training opportunities.

  • Knowledge of Purchasing master data and how it can be used and maintained to support the P2P process. Train and support team on understanding and maintenance of Purchasing master data.

  • Ability to work designated schedule.

  • Ability to work on a mobile device, tablet, or in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 90% of a typical working day.

  • Ability to work on a computer and phone simultaneously.

  • Ability and means to travel between Madison locations.

  • Ability to travel up to 10% of working time away from work location, may include overnight/weekend travel.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Procurement, Supply Chain, Finance, Science, or related field as outlined in the essential duties; or Associates Degree in Procurement, Supply Chain, Finance, Science, or related field as outlined in the essential duties and 2 years of related work experience in lieu of Bachelor's Degree.

  • 8+ years of professional industry related work experience.

  • 3+ years of experience in supply chain, buying, and/or planning.

  • 3+ years of experience leading people.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs.

  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

  • Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional industry experience operating within an ISO 13485, CAP/CLIA, or similar quality system.
  • 5+ years of experience with SAP or other ERP systems.
  • 3+ years professional working experience in good manufacturing practice (GMP) facilities, equipment, and processes.
  • 1+ years of experience with contract management and negotiations.
  • 2+ years of business integration experience.
  • 1+ years of experience with international supply channels and customers.

Salary Range:

$93,000.00 - $149,000.00

The annual base salary shown is for this position located in US - WI - Madison on a full-time basis. In addition, this position is bonus eligible, and is eligible to receive company stock upon hire as well as annually.
