Professional, Exempt, Full-time, 12 months, Benefits-Eligible.

SALARY:

$42,000 - $50,000 Annually, Depending on Education and Experience. Note: If employed before June 1, 2024, you will also be eligible for a $3,120 increase on July 1, 2024.

SUMMARY

Flathead Valley Community College is searching for our next Dining Services Manager to lead the Eagle Nest Café and campus catering.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Directs the day-to-day operations in the Eagles' Nest Cafe and catering services. Provides a broad range of administrative, financial and support operations.

  • Sustains excellent customer service and quality food service to the students, faculty, staff and customers of dining and catering services.

  • Networks with local community, college programs, and vendors to provide quality and healthy food. Integrates the use of locally grown foods for café/catering operations when available and appropriate for menus.

  • Promotes a culture of leadership within a collaborative, team-oriented environment; supervises, recruits, develops, motivates, and evaluates a team in alignment with job expectations, professional roles, and the College mission. Trains and manages staff in food production, customer service, cash handling, portion control, sanitation, and safety.

  • Leads in the development of a climate that promotes and supports innovation and improved services to students, faculty, and the community. Develops new dining concepts and recipes that are nutritionally sound.

  • Oversees the purchase of products and monitors inventory control of food and non-food items used in the café/catering operations. Recommends planning and budget priorities for café/catering operations. Develops menus and costing for café and catering services.

  • Administers the café/catering operations and facilities in accordance with the highest compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal health codes, and FVCC mission and goals.

  • Ensures the kitchen facilities and equipment are maintained in a safe and sanitary manner.

  • Assesses the satisfaction of customers through annual surveys and other methods.

  • Recommends policies and procedures appropriate for the effective functioning of café/catering operations.

  • Manages all fiscal affairs associated with the Eagle's Nest, including analyzing sales trends, managing expenses, completing purchases, reconciling daily cash, and preparing price-per-item reports.

  • Actively participates in the development of a climate that promotes and supports innovation and efforts to continuously improve services to students, faculty, and the College. Researches, analyzes, and resolves issues that arise and addresses them proactively.

  • Meets with other college personnel for events, projects, planning, idea sharing, issue resolutions, operational communications, professional development, etc.

  • Remains current in practices, trends and research related to areas of assignment.

  • Attends related training, workshops, and professional development.

  • Cross-trains to perform other departmental and team functions; backfills for staff as needed.

  • Creates and maintains a collaborative and collegial environment with colleagues and maintains effective working relationships.

  • Maintains professional ethics and confidentiality of students in accordance with applicable laws and policies.

  • Advances the mission of FVCC by serving on or convening committees and contributing to the community in college-related activities.

  • Develops and completes special projects as directed.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Reports to the Vice-President Finance and Administration.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Four years of progressively responsible culinary experience; OR,
  • Associate degree in closely related field or equivalent course work AND two years of culinary work experience, AND,
  • ServSafe certification upon employment.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Degree from accredited culinary school or program.

  • Culinary experience at an educational or institutional level.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • General hospitality knowledge and interest in sustainable food practices.

  • Ability to operate food service and accounting software systems.

  • Strong customer service orientation.

  • Ability to use a student-centered approach in the work environment.

  • Ability to work within policies and procedures of FVCC.

  • Ability and willingness to serve as an ambassador for the College by interacting appropriately with the college community and community.

  • Ability to maintain effective and positive professional relationships.

  • Ability to follow and issue directions.

  • Demonstrated effective communication, leadership, conflict resolution and training skills.

  • Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds.

  • Ability to intermittently work non-traditional schedules for catering including early mornings and evenings, etc.

  • Ability to maintain regular and acceptable attendance levels.

  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.

  • Ability to pass a pre-employment physical screen.

  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.

  • Ability to respond in the event of an emergency.

  • This is a Heavy Duty job, according to the Selected Characteristics of Occupations Defined in the Revised Dictionary of Occupational Titles, U.S. Department of Labor and Industry. Heavy Duty involves exertion of up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25-50 pounds frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds continuously to move objects.
