Description

REMOTE POSITION

Job Summary: Oversees and coordinates the mechanical and electrical design operations supporting new product development. Manages a staff of mechanical and electrical designers, including the Design Supervisors, involved in the design and development of parametric models and/or assemblies for various types of HVAC equipment using computer design software (CAD). Collaborates with Management, Engineers, Design Supervisors and Project Managers to determine design solutions and assigns design work to team members based on design requirements, skill level and workload.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversees and coordinates the mechanical and electrical design operations supporting the development of a variety of new HVAC products.

  • Manages a team of Electrical and Mechanical Designers, including Mechanical and Electrical Design Supervisors, involved in the design and development of parametric models and assemblies for various types of HVAC equipment using computer design software (CAD).

  • Consults with Engineering Management, Engineers, Design Supervisors and Project Managers to determine design solutions and assigns design work to team members according to product requirements, skill level and workload.

  • Collaborates with the Design Engineering team to develop design standards and communicates those standards to designers, and other departments as necessary.

  • Provides support to the production team during prototype and production launches to facilitate seamless releases and acts to quickly resolve any manufacturing issues.

  • Keeps up with the processing of orders in house (SPAS).

  • Expected to handle multiple tasks simultaneously under guidance of other design Engineers.

  • Reviews and approves complete bill of material by defining when, where, and why specific parts are used in each design.

  • Supports DFMEAs, PFMEAs, CFD, FEA, and Seismic evaluations and testing.

  • Maintains and builds professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, or participating in professional societies.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in a technical field and 10 years' industry experience, or an Associate's degree in a technical field and 15 years' industry experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage teams of designers through supervisors.

  • Understands safety standards including but not limited to UL, CE, NEC, IBC, and NFPA.

  • Excellent mechanical, electrical, controls, and design aptitude.

  • Ability to lead multiple design projects, including conceptual designs, make design recommendations, and mentor designers.

  • Understands Parametric Modeling technologies used in the creation of designs for various parts and assemblies.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast paced, high-pressure environment.

  • Creativity and innovation to implement new ideas and technologies.

  • Excels in structural, electrical and controls analysis of assemblies.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrates strong multi-tasking capabilities and organizational skills.

Work Environment:

  • Frequent exposure to manufacturing facilities with seasonal hot and cold temperatures, dust, and some chemical fume exposure.

  • Ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods of time.

  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office setting.

  • Occasional travel as required.
