Our Sterile Processing Department has an essential role in the delivery of safe patient care. Our team makes sure that all medical/surgical supplies are cleaned, prepared, processed, stored, and issued for patient care and maintains a high standard for sterilization technique and product quality throughout our facility.

Our team is currently looking for a Sterile Processing Department Manager. The Manager reports to the Director of Perioperative Services and works closely with all areas of the hospital and physician clinics serviced by sterile processing including physicians, vendors and department leadership. The Manager supervises the Sterile Processing Supervisor, Secretary and all Sterile Processing Technicians.

Requirements:

  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse from the Louisiana State Board of Nursing with a bachelor's degree in nursing OR a Surgical Technician with an associate degree or above in surgical technology. If the Surgical Technician does not have an associate degree, a minimum of three years of supervisory experience is required.

  • CSPDT certification or equivalent must be obtained within 12 months of position start date.

  • Minimum of three years' experience in sterile processing or surgery working directly with instrumentation and sterilization of equipment.

  • Minimum of one year of supervisory experience

Responsibilities of the Manager position include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinates the collection, decontamination, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of instruments and equipment.

  • Reviews and maintains daily sterilization records. Verifies appropriate procedures and documentation are completed as required.

  • Practices and enforces appropriate infection control measures. Takes corrective action immediately if proper procedures are not being followed.

  • Monitors to ensure that appropriate practices are utilized to safely and effectively decontaminate and sterilize instruments and equipment.

  • Schedules and coordinates required maintenance on equipment to avoid major delays for essential sets and equipment.

  • Revises and maintains procedures for the manufacturer files. Utilizes recommended manufacturers' guidelines and complies with AORN and ANSI/AAMI guidelines and standards. Relays all procedural changes to employees in an appropriate and timely manner.

  • Assists in development and presentation of continuing education programs for area employees and other departments with similar job functions.

  • Coordinates evaluation of new items, sets, etc. Provides compilation of data from evaluation to appropriate areas. Works closely with supply chain management to coordinate supply needs.

  • Monitors and adjusts linen par levels. Relays pertinent information to Environmental Services department.

  • Assists in orientation of new employees. Coordinates efforts with the area clinical educators for orientation and training needs.

  • Follows appropriate recall procedures of sterilized items as required.

  • Prepares daily work schedule and revises as needed. Assures proper staff levels at all times.

  • Assists in creation and resolution of department policies and procedures based on Joint Commission recommendations.

  • Completes evaluations of each employee's performance annually and in a timely manner.

  • Supports quality monitoring and initiatives for Sterile Processing and Perioperative Services in alignment with infection prevention and evidence-based practice.

  • Facilitates the development and achievement of quality goals submitted for strategic and tactical plans.

  • Active member of assigned committees, councils and task forces.

  • Perform other duties assigned by Department leadership according to policies and procedures and the mission of Woman's Hospital.

Salary/Exempt

$69,700 to $103,770
