Manager, Data Archietecture

Capital One is passionate about data it drives our everyday lives. Capital One's Enterprise Data Architecture organization works in tandem with business and technology leaders to set the direction for how we improve reporting, analytics and decision making throughout Capital One. As a Senior Manager in Enterprise Data Architecture, the ideal candidate will directly impact enterprise-level objectives, priority setting and capability enablement. You will work to determine Capital One's data architecture strategy, including optimal use of technologies, innovation approaches to solving business needs and responsible management of data integrity and quality. You will communicate with directors and executives, mentor technical staff, build high-performing teams and partner with leading / cutting edge technology vendors to ensure SLA standards are met.

The Job:

  • Work on high-performing, agile team focused on Data Architecture

  • Steer our data integration and processing strategic direction

  • Lead in the adoption and migration to new data technologies like unstructured and streaming data

  • Develop and mentor individuals and teams

  • Drive incremental progress towards the target architecture

  • Act as the Product Owner for critical Data Architecture initiatives

  • Provide oversight and manage technology risks and issues

  • Provide senior level technical direction to application development teams working on complex or data intensive projects

  • Solve for how we address important organization data management needs

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or military experience

  • At least 5 years of experience in Data Management

  • At least 5 years of experience in Information Architecture or Data Architecture

  • At least 5 years of experience in Big Data or Streaming Data

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in mathematics, economics, engineering or computer science
  • 2+ years of experience with the Hadoop, HDFS, MapReduce or Hive
  • 2+ years of experience with Stream Processing Frameworks in Spark or Kafka
  • 3+ years of experience with substantial programming in Python, Java, Scala, or Node.JS
  • 2+ years of experience in Agile software development

Data Scientist Manager for Statistics Capital One is seeking a Data Scientist at the Manager level for an exciting new initiative to develop multichannel natural language intelligent assistants that provide an outstanding experience for our customers. You will work closely with our product, design, and engineering teams to perform sophisticated statistical analyses about human and chatbot behavior, which will in turn bring greater intelligence and humanity to our conversational AI. So far we've brought Eno (SMS, web site, apps) and our Alexa and Cortana skills to life. We're quickly improving these and adding more channels. As a Data Scientist at Capital One, you'll be part of a team that's leading the next wave of disruption at a whole new scale, using the latest in distributed computing technologies and operating across billions and billions of customer transactions to unlock the big opportunities that help everyday people save money, time and agony in their financial lives. You'll also be part of a strong community of hundreds of data scientists doing industry-leading work. In this position you'll spend time analyzing human and chatbot behavior with sophisticated statistical models to pinpoint our best opportunities to improve customer experience and engagement. On any given day you may also find yourself: * Writing software to clean and investigate large, messy data sets of numerical and textual data * Integrating with external data sources and APIs to discover interesting trends (NOAA Weather Data + Credit Card Transactions = Fascinating!) * Using Spark and related tools to manage the analysis of billions of customer transaction records * Designing rich data visualizations to communicate complex ideas to customers or company leaders * Investigating the impact of new technologies on the future of mobile banking and the financial world of tomorrow * Creating machine learning models using from development through testing and validation to our 30+ million customers in production The Ideal Candidate will be... * Curious. You ask why, you explore, you're not afraid to blurt out your crazy idea. You probably have a diploma and an impressive GPA, or you dropped out of college, taught yourself and routinely win Kaggle competitions. * Wrangler. You know how to move data around, from a database or an API, through a transformation or two, a model and into human-readable form (ROC curve, Excel chart, map, d3 visualization, Tableau, etc.). You probably know Python, Java, R, Storm, Julia, SQL, Matlab, Mahout, or think everything can be done in a Perl one-liner. * Do-er. You have a bias toward action, you try things, and sometimes you fail. Expect to tell us what you've shipped and what's flopped. * Fearless. Big, undefined problems and petabytes don't frighten you. You can work at a tiny crack until you've broken open the whole nut.
