We are seeking an experienced Manager, Crew Care to join our team. This is a hybrid position and can be based in our Fort Lauderdale, FL or Santa Clarita, CA offices. In this role you'll responsible for managing the Princess Cruises Crew Care Team and ensuring the provision of support related to leavers, team member emergencies and employee relations for the Company. You'll be the first point of contact for routine employee relations and policy interpretation for the Company pertaining to Crew Care and will support the shipboard Human Resources Officers by providing guidance on routine day to day employee relations activities as required, including disciplinary and performance improvement processes. You'll also be a secondary point of contact for the onboard officers in the event of any general HR policy related inquires and will escalate as necessary toward sound resolutions.

Responsibilities

  • Manages and motivates the Crew Care team and oversees the function to ensure that policies and procedures are adhered to and updated as needed.

  • Manages the team which acts as a first point of contact for CARE related matters for shipboard personnel, including out of hours support as needed.

  • Responsible for ensuring proper staffing levels for day-to-day operations and after-hours coverage.

  • Responsible for assessing team performance which may include providing regular feedback, conducting 1:1 check-in, performance reviews and supporting training and development opportunities.

  • Analyzes and escalates high level concerns raised by the Crew Care team as appropriate with recommended solutions to Sr. Management.

  • Creates well written and researched responses for review and resolution of team member issues and cases; and keeps track and reports any trending issues including how they could be addressed.

  • Initiates and manages logistics and maintains constant communication with internal and external authorities and Operational Departments in relation to escalated employee issues and crew care concerns.

  • Supports the shipboard Human Resources Officers and other Officers by providing guidance regarding routine employee relations issues, disciplinary process and performance improvement counseling while complying with Company policies and procedures.

  • Coordinates and manages the appeals process for reinstatement of team members after disciplinary discharge by reviewing appeals and evaluating suitability of reinstatement.

  • Explains and interprets Company policies and procedures and the need for compliance to managers and employees, using creativity to resolve difficult internal customer requests by managing expectations efficiently and effectively escalating as appropriate.

  • Builds and maintains professional relations with operational department representatives to encourage collaborative partnerships to address feedback on crew morale, concerns and issues related to shipboard team members.

  • Responds to queries which come from or regarding any unexpected leavers and supports with looking into any concerns raised as guided by the Sr. Manager, Fleet People Partner.

  • Ensures that Short Leave policy is adhered to from a shipboard perspective. This includes confirmation of approvals from Shoreside Operations for 3 Stripe and above officers and that the short leave postings are correctly entered into the system of record once approved.

  • Provides weekly and monthly reports to Sr. Management on trends and any major escalations and issues.

  • Uses independent judgment to determine best course of action related to crew incidents, ensuring interests of the Company are protected.

  • Ensures Ship Notices, as it relates to unexpected Leavers and Incident Reports and updates, are communicated to all relevant parties (shipboard management, shoreside management, recruiting offices, Crew Offices, Medical Department/ Health Services, Talent Partners, Crew Travel, and Local Port Agent, Hospitals etc.)

  • Works with various internal business partners to recommend and decide on new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of department and services performed.

  • Engages with and manages the business partner relationship with Medical Department/Health Services for assistance with the resolution of any unique cases and engages with Sr. Manager, Fleet People Partner towards solution.

  • Manages the administration of Crew Care Sick Benefits.

  • Ensures that Fit/Unfit memos are completed in a timely manner.

  • Ensures payment of sick wages are timely and in compliance with MLC 2006 guidelines and escalates when necessary.

  • Ensures efficient follow up on any queries related to sick wages and entitlements from crew members in timely manner.

  • Researches, develops, and implements policies and procedures to improve the operations of the department Administers any additional tasks, programs and projects as assigned from time to time.

  • May be required to support Fleet People Partner and Employee Relations team with investigations related to unexpected leavers.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in employee relations or Human Resources Management, Shipboard Crew Care, and operations

  • Knowledge of Federal and State labor laws and preferably experience with International Maritime and Flag-state legislation.

  • Ability to think critically and anticipate issues before they arise, and proactively suggest long-term solutions to a variety of stakeholders, including People Partners, legal, business leaders.

  • Proficient in policies, practices, and procedures of internal investigations in Employee Relations

  • Embraces the fundamentals of project management and demonstrates a strong ability to identify, analyze and solve problems.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) for negotiating, responding to, and resolving complex, sensitive, and confidential issues.

  • Proficiency in the use of computer business applications with working knowledge of presentation, word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications

  • Efficient and effective organizational skills

  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines while managing multiple complex projects.

  • Minimum 2 plus years' experience leading a team and demonstrated collaboration in complex environment.

This is a hybrid role, and can be based in our Fort Lauderdale, FL or Santa Clarita, CA offices. Candidates must be driving distance and comfortable going into the office 3 days per week.

  • Base Salary Range: $90,700-$122,500. The range is applicable for the labor market where the role is intended to be hired. Final base pay is directly related to each candidates' qualifications and experience uniquely.
