The Credit and Collections Manager will establish and oversee credit guidelines for the company's customers. Manages the activities of credit approval and credit collection. Develops, implements and maintains systems, procedures and policies. Recommends credit limits and handles special credit arrangement and problem collection accounts. Overseas analysis of accounts receivable, aging of accounts to determine overdue accounts, and collection procedures. Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field, with a Master's degree preferred

  • 8+ years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • 3+ years of managerial experience

  • Advanced working knowledge of Excel and Outlook.

  • Prior experience working with SAP preferred, ideally S4 Hana.

  • Knowledge of bankruptcy and collection laws.

  • Knowledge of California and multi-state sales tax laws regarding resale certificate requirements.

  • Ability to analyze financial statements and footnotes.

  • Ability to work well with other people, both externally and internally

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to travel up to 25% domestically

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Establishes and maintains credit policies and practices.

  • Assures prompt collection of Accounts Receivable to maintain the company's cash management goals.

  • Will interface with other department supervisors, VPs, Sales Reps, Credit Managers with other company entities, Collection Agencies, Attorneys, and customers, as needed.

  • Maintains close monitoring of all accounts through aging reports.

  • Forecasts weekly and monthly bad debt expense.

  • Reacts quickly and professionally in negotiating payment arrangements with delinquent customers.

  • Consistently follows up on problem accounts.

  • Oversees daily collection activity to determine potential problems.

  • Approves payment terms.

  • Manages, trains and leads staff in performance of their duties in accordance with applicable laws within company policy and procedures.

  • Excellent negotiation skills, Financial analysis skills, and ability to interpret and analyze numerical data, Leadership skills to include customer service focus, planning, organization and effective communication.

  • Maximizes cash collection of receivables, minimizes bad debt losses, and develops effective customer relationships.

  • Responsible for ensuring accurate communication to President, VP Finance, and Controller regarding significant Credit and AR matters.

  • Serves as the credit expert for the department and the organization.

  • Collects and compiles data on prospective customers to establish financial risk involved.

  • Extends credit in accordance with the Credit Policy.

  • Responsible for the receipt of all credit applications, including review for completeness.

  • Maintains updated credit records on the current customer base, account status and terms in SAP.

  • Responsible for determining strategy for collecting from delinquent and financially distressed customers and initiating credit holds/releases.

  • Makes payment arrangements, mails letters confirming arrangements and file signed agreements in customer folder.

  • Responsible for daily approval of cash receipts posting and continual review of cash collection.

  • Daily bank deposits and related documentation.

  • Analyzes the collection efforts of agencies, review bills for accuracy and make recommendations for changes, when necessary.

  • Review bankruptcy claims, complete forms, mail to court, file in customer folder.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
