The CI Manager shapes, drives and supports the implementation of the regional CI strategy linked to the Global ambition of Barry Callebaut aiming at G4Zero together (Go for Zero on Safety Incidents, Quality or Service Issues and Sustainability Impact).

The CI Manager will manage one or more work streams/departments within the Continuous Improvement (CI) implementation at the site. This person is responsible for coaching and driving the implementation of the methodology for various departments and will identify and quantify opportunities within the functional area, supporting the site in deploying the CI ways of working by enhancing the competences of the team in the area of continuous improvement tools and methods like 5S, Teamboards, KPI development, Visual Factory, Value Stream, VA vs NVA elimination and collaborative problem solving techniques.

The CI Manager plans for and coordinates the execution of the deliverables and tracks and reports on the progress realized by the department/works team in terms of installed deliverables, behavior of members of the department and organizational results. This person will train, coach and support all levels of the assigned department in implementing the new way of working and act as change manager to deal with change management issues within the borders of the department. The CI Manager will work closely with the manager of the department and keep close reporting lines to the CI Director. They will be a mentor for the facilitators in the team and lead by example for both CI members and facility employees.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Identify and quantify opportunities within the site and or functional areas, plan for and coordinate on the execution of the deliverables and tracks and report on the progress realized by the department/workstream, in terms of installed deliverables, behavior of members of the department and operational results.

  • Define and support a business case for the site and or department, be able to specify the detailed planning in function of the findings and site specifics, organize and coordinate the team members from the site so that actions and deliverables are realized. Has a full understanding of the Continuous improvement methodology, the tools and techniques, to ensure objectives of the departments are met.

  • Daily coaching, training and support of all levels of the functional department (manager, supervisor(s), operators). Implementing the new way of working and acting as change manager to deal with change management issues within the borders of the department.

  • Oversee and manage the local CI Support team which is responsible for creating and implementing the site CI plan (Teamboards, Kaizen Blitz, POKA, 5S Methodology, Productivity, MES and Operations Training & Development etc.)

  • Work in peer with the Site Manager and all Department Managers as well as keeping close reporting lines to the Regional CI Manager.

  • Oversee and manage the site Operations Trainer(s) who are responsible for the creation, implementation and management of the site training plan. Plays a key role in defining the structure and documentation for the plan as well ensuring it's both measurable and sustainable for the site and delivers successful training for all employees on site.

  • Be a representative of the Barry Callebaut CI methodology (BCOS Excellence) and Core Values and as such, always shows exemplary behavior towards the internal customer

  • Lead and drive and chair meetings where required, being able to demonstrate effective and value added meetings, workshops, and performance and project status meetings (different types of meetings require different types of approaches: brainstorm, deep dive, coordinator, report).

  • On a systematic basis, steer the change and progress of the department/project. Seek support from the regional CI manager when needed.

  • Active steering and follow-up of the work stream members in their activities and results.

  • In close collaboration with the Regional CI Manager, work out best practices realized within the own team, to share with our teams in other regions. Take ownership of the best practices realized within the assigned work stream/department.

  • Lead by example in showing discipline and consistency in applying the appropriate methodology to deal with performance issues and to develop improvements.

  • Build reports within the project team as well as to prepare department managers to report at steering committee level.

Key Metrics:

  • BCOS and Go4Zero maturity score for the site

  • Productivity Savings (project successes)

  • Effectiveness of 8S, 5S, RCA and Teamboards and future CI tools

  • MUV & Productivity Tracking Dashboards for the site

  • Site CI Plan

  • POKA

About you:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and/or Management (Master's Degree Plus)

  • 7+ years' experience in Lean, TQM, Six Sigma or similar continuous improvement environments

  • Preference to individuals with certifications in Lean, Six Sigma (Blackbelt preferred)

  • Understand and be able to manage a department through the change process (understands when to request support and when to escalate).

  • Master the Barry Callebaut methodology in Continuous Improvement (BCOS Excellence)

  • Have sufficient project management experience, to execute the necessary steps in project management (plan, conduct, follow-up, reports, risk assessment and mitigation).

  • Have good knowledge on change management and sufficient practical experience to train, coach and influence people from the department, in function of the desired objectives and goals.

  • Have a good insight in business processes and the related dimensions required to run processes in an effective and efficient manner.

  • Understand the operational drivers that trigger operations. Show interest in and acquiring knowledge on the link between operational and financial results.

  • Be able to prepare structured and transparent PowerPoint presentations.

  • Strong knowledge in MS office packages (able to build XLS tools of average complexity)

  • Open for systematic traveling and willing to make hard investment in own career and development

  • Shop floor oriented, hence regular on site presence will be key.
