About the Team

Roku's Content Acquisition & Programming team is responsible for driving the strategy, execution and continued management of licensed content and partnerships for The Roku Channel across the US, Canada, Mexico and UK territories. The team encompasses Content Acquisition (responsible for deal strategy and negotiation to acquire Movies, TV Series, FAST Channels, and more), Content Partnerships (responsible for managing Roku's hundreds of content partners), Content Strategy & Planning (responsible for guiding content investments and windowing tactics to maximize engagement and ROI), and FAST Channels Management (responsible for the strategy and execution behind FAST channels).

About the Role

The Content Acquisition & Programming Team is looking for a Manager, Content Strategy & Planning.

The Manager, Content Strategy & Planning will lead a small team across the content strategy & analysis, and programming & scheduling functions, working directly with Senior Roku Media Leadership to define the licensed content needs across VOD and FAST for The Roku Channel (TRC).

This small but mighty team will devise and implement the content licensing strategy and execution plan for ad-supported licensed content across VOD and FAST Channels. The team works cross-functionally to translate an incredible amount of data into financial and strategic decisions regarding the mix of different types of content that comprise our overall offering, the content that resonates with The Roku Channel's viewers and business models that drive the future growth of the Channel. The role will report to VP, Content Acquisition & Programming and is located in Santa Monica, CA or New York, NY.

Our industry changes quickly, so we expect a great candidate to be comfortable responding quickly to changing business needs, knowing that their own success comes when the team succeeds.

For Santa Monica Only - The estimated annual salary for this position is between $165,000 and $247,000 annually.

Compensation packages are based on factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, certifications, and specific geographical location.

What you'll be doing

  • Create and iterate on data-based strategies to inform the content mix among VOD movies and series acquisitions, as well as FAST Channels

  • Develop content strategy guides for content acquisition team, working cross functionally across the Ads Optimization, Product, Core Analytics, Business Strategy and Audience Insights teams

  • Prepare portfolio analyses to support content deal negotiations and decisions in terms of required volume, optimal pricing and business needs; evaluating business metrics and KPIs

  • Develop content category and windowing strategies that maximize portfolio efficiency and margin while continuing to drive viewer engagement and increase viewer habit

  • Support Consumer Insights and Core Analytics to help identify deep, actionable data-driven insights into the content preferences, behavior and needs of The Roku Channel viewers

  • Evaluate business metrics and KPIs across Finance, Core Analytics, Content Acquisitions, Merchandising and Marketing

  • Manage team across deliverables for many time sensitive and sometimes ambiguous topics

  • Regularly present analyses and reports on relevant operating and financial metrics in an easy-to-understand format to senior business leaders both internally and externally

  • Perform other tasks, projects, and responsibilities as assigned by leadership

We're excited if you have

  • 4+ years of experience in a top management consulting firm, investment bank and/or media / entertainment / tech company in a strategy / program planning / analytical role. We are looking for candidates that have worked in a highly-demanding environment where complex modeling and analysis is performed

  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, accounting, economics, or a highly analytical field (e.g., Engineering, Math, and Computer Science) or equivalent; MBA preferred but not required

  • Experience conducting quantitative analysis (including modeling) and qualitative analysis and can drive to insight and results using data

  • Exceptional financial modeling skills and proficiency with MS Excel & PowerPoint; working knowledge of statistics and analysis tools (e.g., Tableau, Looker)

  • Strong communication / presentation skills with a track record of presenting complex analyses to executives / senior management clearly and concisely
