Job Summary

The Manager of Community Affairs plays a pivotal role in shaping our company's external relationships, advocating for our interests, and fostering meaningful community engagements. This position connects company business objectives with broader reputation and social issues, while understanding and incorporating the commercial drivers for the business. The position is the "face" of Freeport LNG in the Brazoria County community, responsible for promoting and maintaining a positive public image of the Company with local stakeholders. The Manager of Community Affairs will be responsible for planning, developing, implementing, measuring and reporting upon annual and long-term community engagement strategies in alignment with Company objectives. The role provides professional support to all levels of employees regarding Company, Terminal, and Employee activities related to Corporate Citizenship initiatives.. This position is the primary contact for inquiries by the community, regarding Terminal activities, and manages all charitable giving, employee volunteerism and community outreach projects and activities in the Brazoria County community.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Monitor the socioeconomic status of the community and develop a comprehensive annual community giving plan and philanthropic budget for recommendation to senior management that aligns charitable activities with the best match for the Company and the community, ensures effective allocation and designation of any high-impact causes and organizations for Strategic donations.

  • Manage public relations and philanthropic budget and implement charitable giving and sponsorship decisions in accordance with the annual plan and within the annual budget, and attend or ensure company representation at community events that the Company is involved with through such giving

  • Manages the Corporate Employee Matching Gifts program

  • In coordination with the Director, Corporate Communications, may prepare/review local media releases and other Company communications and distribute as appropriate with approval of senior management. May also serve as back-up PIO and be required to respond directly with local media

  • Monitors and reports upon local media coverage & exposure, including internet and social media activity.

  • Coordinate local speaking engagements for management or makes public presentations and prepares presentations as necessary.

  • Serve as a company representative at company trade, marketing, community and social events.

  • Establishes, develops and cultivates relationships with key business partners and influencers in the community. Participate and serve on or ensure company representation on boards & committees of locally relevant initiatives and organizations involving corporate giving, civic leadership, educational programs and leadership. Is specifically requested to ensure company representation on the Community Advisory Panel (CAP), the Brazoria County Petrochemical Council (BCPC), the Brazoria County Economic Alliance, and various Chamber of Commerce committees.

  • Establish and maintain regular communication and positive relations with local stakeholders and public interest groups, especially with regard to operations at the Terminal, and ongoing and future projects.

  • Observe social, economic, and political trends that might ultimately affect the organization, and recommend ways to enhance the organization's image based on those trends.

  • Coordinate and encourage employee involvement/volunteerism in community outreach events.

  • Prepare annual report on the Company's community activities, including charitable giving, employee volunteerism and sponsorships.

  • Facilitate interactions between the Company and the community by working closely with internal departments to plan and execute open houses and other events as appropriate.

  • Must continuously be aware of the Company objectives, strategy and activities and be able to use discretion when communicating this information publicly.

  • Ensure photographic opportunities are captured at Company activities and community outreach events and maintained for publicity, compliance and historical purposes.

  • Collaborate across functional groups to further the Company's overall business objectives through the use and support of community affairs efforts.

Essential Functions

  • Promote "branding" of the company including promotional items, advertising, social media, and other print material. Ensure consistent and approved use of the company logo in this regard.

  • Coordinate site tours and conduct tours as necessary for non-commercial/technical groups; coordinates the LNG "magic show" for such tours and visitors. Ensure tour supplies are available.

  • Assist with and participate in outward-focused company special events as appropriate.

  • Is afforded a flexible schedule to accommodate commitments occurring during the day, evenings and weekends.

Minimum Qualification/Work Experience

Minimum Education Required: Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Business, Marketing, or related field or 5+ years on-the-job experience

Minimum Experience Required: 5 years relevant experience

Preferred: 3+ Years managing Public or Community Relations.

Experience in Industrial, Petrochemical or LNG industry is preferred for external candidates.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Knowledge in the areas of community relations, philanthropy, cause and social marketing, public relations, reputation management, and stakeholder engagement is preferred.

  • Must have exceptional written and verbal communication skills; including public speaking.

  • High degree of communication, leadership and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to maintain a good reputation for the company even in times of crisis.

  • Reflects a personal style that will serve to support and reflect positively the mission, image and strategy of the company.

  • Managing numerous budgets including planning, input and active management to ensure program remain on budget

  • Personality must be outgoing and friendly

  • Should have a talent for persuasion, creativity and fluency with the English language.

  • Must be able to "think on their feet" to respond quickly in fielding questions about the company in an appropriate manner in a wide range of situations.

  • Efficiency in project and time management with a collaborative and open style.

  • Ability to work flexible hours depending on activities and events.

  • Working knowledge of technology-based communications (internet, social media and other vehicles and their use as part of a strategic communication plan).

  • Ability to create and manage budgets.

  • Commitment to quality.

  • Creativity, initiative and knowledge of public affairs practices and principles

  • Experience developing content for company website.

  • Should be able to develop and demonstrate base knowledge of governing agencies such as FERC, DOT, TCEQ, OSHA, etc.

HSE Roles and Responsibilities

Support the policies, efforts, and programs of Freeport LNG Health, Safety and Environmental Management System. Actively participate in the HSE Management System Policies. Ensure that HSE concerns are given priority in all activities completed within their area of responsibility. Implement routine inspections to ensure safe operating conditions.

Working Conditions and Physical Expectations

Working Conditions :

  • Operates in a professional office environment within or outside of an industrial plant environment.

  • Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers w/scanner and fax, and filing cabinets.

  • This is primarily a sedentary role; however, the incumbent must be able to stand and/or sit continuously to perform all essential job functions for a full shift.

  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. as required in order to lift files, boxes and office equipment as necessary.

  • Ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bending, standing on a stool, or climbing as necessary to perform these functions.

  • While performing the duties of this role, the incumbent may be required to talk or hear.

  • The incumbent is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

  • Ability to drive to other Company work locations and events as required.

  • Ability to move throughout all areas of each office/site location and facilities.
