Job Summary

As the Communications Manager at Spectrum Brands, you will play a pivotal role in creating and executing our comprehensive internal communications and employee engagement strategy on a companywide scale. Your primary focus will be on developing communications initiatives to inform, inspire and celebrate our diverse global workforce. Your strategic approach will influence our cadence of business communications efforts and foster a sense of belonging and connection among employees, regardless of their location or role.

Reporting to the Director of Internal Communications and Employee Experience, you will be instrumental in shaping the narrative of our company culture, developing content and managing initiatives that drive alignment and ensure the effective dissemination of key messages around our corporate strategic priorities and business operations.

Collaborating closely with global colleagues across HR functions, business units, marketing teams, and other internal stakeholders, you will provide communications expertise and guidance to drive globally aligned, consistent and transparent communications for all employees.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Organizational Communications

  • Generate, review, refine, and distribute on-message content targeted to all employees and leaders, ensuring the use of appropriate communication channels, cadence, and translations, with the intent of advancing organizational goals.

  • Actively engage with colleagues across global business units, Human Resources and other enabling functions to define functional and technical needs to help drive the creation and delivery of best-practice communication initiatives and/or services.

  • Working closely with Human Resources, marketing teams and employee resource groups, lead our efforts to amplify business and marketing initiatives across internal and external channels, as well as social media platforms.

  • Monitor, manage and develop content for our external channels and social media platforms, highlighting employee achievements, company events and other relevant updates.

Planning and Reporting

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive content strategy encompassing our bi-weekly employee newsletter, company intranet, and social media platforms. This includes planning and implementing a content calendar to ensure timely delivery of relevant, engaging, and inclusive content from global business units and enabling functions.

  • Track and analyze efficacy of communication initiatives and channels (internal and external) and make recommendations for enhancements.

  • Provide guidance on the workflow, tasks and deliverables of a part-time external contractor, ensuring high-quality deliverables and effective utilization of resources, as well as alignment with departmental objectives and standards.

Leadership Communications

  • Make strategic recommendations to business leaders on appropriate communication tactics related to advancing our Spectrum Brands strategy, and ensure messaging is consistent across the organization.

  • Support the execution of quarterly global town hall meetings, including logistics, content creation, presenter preparation and coaching, and other communications needs as needed.

Employee Engagement

  • Serve as the primary Communications liaison for global Social Committees and RISE (Recreation, Inclusion, Social, Engagement) teams (US), as well as the US DEI Council and Inclusion Networks, with responsibility for the collection and coordination planned initiatives, sharing and collaborating across teams, and identifying opportunities to amplify initiatives across internal and external communication channels and social media platforms.

  • Direct and manage the company intranet to ensure it serves as a valuable resource for people leaders and employees. This includes overseeing content management and platform optimization in collaboration with key internal stakeholders. Proficiency with SharePoint and Sitecore content management systems is required.

Education and Experience Profile

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, English or related field.
  • 7+ years in corporate or internal communications and/or employee engagement roles, preferably with experience working within global environments; CPMG experience is a plus, as is public or media relations experience.

Required Skills

  • Self-starter with demonstrated experience in managing global communications initiatives and the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong understanding of communications best practices and trends, with a proven ability to develop and execute effective communication strategies and content.

  • Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills, with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to convey complex information in a clear and concise manner.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with global, cross-functional teams and build relationships at all levels of the organization.

  • Highly motivated, accountable, works well individually and with a team, including employees at all levels in an organization.

  • Confidence to counsel and coach senior leaders on their communication efforts.

  • Ability and discretion to handle confidential business information.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with communications tools and platforms, as well as with SharePoint and Sitecore content management systems.

  • Multi-media experience, including video production, graphic design, digital and other visual communications is a plus.

  • Experience with or understanding of HR communications and DEI initiatives is also a plus.
