This critical Finance position reports to the Sr. Director of FP&A and will oversee the commercial activities and revenue projections. This cross-functional role will require the ability to cultivate an effective business partnership between the Commercial functional areas, Finance and the Executive Committee.
What will you be doing?
Lead the financial planning and forecasting function in support of the Commercial organization by developing an annual budget and quarterly forecasts, including key programs, headcount spending and revenue projections
Work closely with the Commercial team to understand commercial strategy and key financial metrics and collaborate with accounting to identify potential financial impacts to ensure financial data is properly recorded
Perform monthly close activities for commercial and research functions, including:
Preparation of accrual and revenue journal entries
Develop and maintain detailed models/schedules for commercial activities by partnering with Commercial functional leads as well as reviewing contracts and general ledger activity
Reconciliation of various balance sheet and P&L accounts
Perform general accounting duties such as investments, related footnotes, reporting, non-payroll taxes and other tasks as assigned
Maintain and improve financial models/reports that track and analyze functional costs and their impact on the company's overall performance
Identify risks and opportunities that drive financial results and effectively communicate to Finance and Commercial leadership
Partner with the Legal team to ensure compliance with the Veeva/Sunshine Act, the grant system, and incentive comp/commission accrual
Analyze budget versus actual results, distribute and review with Commercial functional leads on a quarterly basis
Assist in preparation of quarterly and annual SEC filings, financial statements, and other management reports as it relates to commercial finance items
Assist in the maintenance of an effective system of controls and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance as it related to commercial finance items
Participate in process improvement activities including enhancing current financial processes, and leverage technology to increase effectiveness
Interact with vendors and internal stakeholders and provide excellent customer service
What are we looking for?
Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting
Minimum of 6+ years of progressive experience in finance or accounting environment supporting a commercial organization
Life science (pharmaceutical, biotech or CRO) experience required
Strong knowledge of GAAP
Must possess strong finance skills, analytical ability, and solid business acumen
Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks and handle simultaneous assignments under tight deadlines and in a fast-paced environment
Advanced knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint and Word are required
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across organizations and utilize resources effectively
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
