The primary purpose of the position is to provide technical leadership and expertise for developing and supporting new and existing software products within Clinical Development & Innovation at HCA. This position requires a candidate who can analyze business requirements, perform design tasks, construct, test, and implement solutions with little to no supervision in an Agile Development environment and provide mentorship to other developers. The candidate must be a highly motivated self-starter and must be committed to delivering high quality solutions within agreed upon timelines. Ultimately, the candidate's success will be evaluated by the performance advances the entire Clinical Development team is able to achieve on a consistent basis. The following are highlighted competencies and core expectations for the job/role:
Lead the software development lifecycle process for selected projects that are designed to stabilize, enhance, and/or expand capabilities related to the Clinical Development team.
Ensure the full and proper application of technology to all department functions
Serve as the Technical Product Manager on the primary Agile Scrum Team for Clinical Development & Innovation
Gather requirements from the Product Owner and other Business stakeholders
Author stories with strong acceptance criteria
Coordinate with other technical teams at HCA on necessary activities
Remove team roadblocks
Manage all staff members involved in the software development process Developers, Business Analysts, Quality Assurance and Support as needed
People management Staff meetings, Resource Allocation Management, Performance Reviews, Time Management, PTO, Employee Development Planning, Mentoring
Manage processes for ongoing application support by ensuring tickets are assigned to team members appropriately and completed in a manner that meets or exceeds pre-defined service level agreements
Evangelize and implement Agile development principles for the entire Clinical Development & Innovation department as well as other HCA stakeholders
Serve as Scrum Master for the primary development team
Assist and advise other teams within and outside the department as needed
In cooperation with HCA Architects, evaluate all proposed new technology for the departmental use and organizational fit
Collaborate with Corporate and Division leadership, Client Executives, Clients and PMs to schedule, staff and deliver application enhancements
Identify potential revenue-generating solutions and perform patent evaluations and feasibility analysis where applicable
Assist the Director of Clinical Development and other designees in developing a catalog of service offerings along with associated costs
The candidate will be involved in:
Ensuring staff are performing development using HCA standards and procedures, maintaining code and version control through defined application development software.
Leading and managing development projects thru inception, elaboration, development, testing, and implementation.
Ensure staff are completing Unit Testing and participating in Peer/Code Reviews of other developers work
Ensure staff are providing advanced troubleshooting user support working with end users at all levels of the organization
Ensure baseline key performance indicators are established as well as relevant operating metrics can be gathered in order to evaluate before/after results related to new technology adoption Identify and help implement process additions/changes/deletions that augment the technology adoption
Conduct training sessions and/or ensure relevant training is performed as necessary to help ensure high levels of technology adoption
Identify and acquire technologies along with all supporting managerial tasks (e.g.- contract management, requisitioning, invoice payments)
RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE
Familiarity with Lean/Agile techniques in development environment (certifications are preferred, but a proven history is highly desired)
Formal experience as a Technical Product Manager and/or served as a Product Manager for a software solution
Experience in Healthcare application development and/or data as a service offering a bonus
Management of staff, Lead and implemented projects with >=5 members, >=1,000 hour projects
Knowledge of three or more of these areas would be preferred:
Design tools Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketch
Native mobile UX/UI
Mobile asset delivery
Wireframing and prototyping (inVision, etc)
Manage product development lifecycles
Agile development expertise
Lead and mentor team designers
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS
Sitting at desk for 4 to 5 hours at a time viewing monitor and typing.
Ability to work nights and weekends when assigned on-call responsibilities.
Some light travel may be required (less than 20%).
