Job Summary:

This position will be responsible for managing a team of casualty claims examiners possessing varied experience levels. This position will oversee the resolution of Primary and Excess casualty claims, including construction-related and products liability matters, with low to high complexity. Provide direction, coaching, and training to achieve appropriate case outcomes. The position will report to the Director or Senior Director of claims and be responsible for conveying the organization's objectives and priorities to staff and measure progress towards stated goals.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of up to 8 claim handlers

  • Direct and monitor assignments of new loss activity

  • Review and approve correspondence and reports

  • Review and approve reserves and settlements in excess of examiner's authority

  • Make recommendations concerning reserve changes to director or senior management.

  • Participate in review and discussion of large loss activity with interested stakeholders (UW, PL, Actuarial, Executive Management)

  • Ensure that team adheres to Fair Claims practices

  • Assess and evaluate individual examiner and team performance, provide feedback and develop training needs

  • Prepare and distribute reports

  • Assist in preparation of budgets, evaluation of expenses and assess resource needs

  • Foster and encourage strong relationships with internal stakeholders (UW, PL, Actuarial)

  • Promote and enhance strong relationships with customers and channel partners

  • Participate in special projects as requested

  • Travel to other claim offices, mediations, trials, and conferences as required.

  • Responsible for training and development of team members

Education

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
  • JD , advanced degree, or focused technical degree a plus

Certification

  • Must have or be eligible to receive claims adjuster license.

  • Successful achievement of industry designations (INS, IEA, AIC, ARM, SCLA, CPCU) or

  • I-Lead or other Management Training

Work Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of claims handling experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Prior management experience a plus

  • Experience working with complex coverage issues in casualty claims a plus

Skill Sets

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills proficient with handling data and reporting tools for assessment of performance, process efficiencies, and supporting stakeholders' information needs.

  • Strong organization and time management skills

  • Ability to deliver outstanding customer service

  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Word)

  • Ability to work in a team environment

  • Strong desire for continuous improvement

Job Summary: This position will oversee and direct claims associates with responsibility for all manner of claims compliance, including but not limited to: pre-claim compliance obligations; identifying requirements and building processes to ensure claims compliance during the life cycle of a claim, including audit thereof; and post-claim reporting obligations of the company for purposes of meeting federal, state or other rules/regulations. Further, the position will liaise with the Executive Insurance Compliance team, and coordinate with the Legal Department on all manner of market conduct examinations, DOI complaints, and other regulatory issues. This position will report to the Claims Chief Operating Officer, and be responsible for conveying the organization's objectives and priorities to staff and measure progress towards stated goals. Job Responsibilities * Provide regular reporting to the Executive Insurance Compliance Committee on department-wide claims compliance, as needed * Identify adjuster licensing requirements, develop processes to cost effectively distribute licenses amongst divisions, and ensure loss assignment to actively licensed adjusters. * Pro-actively identify and maintain all rules and regulations involving proper claims handling, and develop protocols & procedures to ensure department compliance with all rules and regulations during the life cycle of a claim, including audit function to measure compliance obligations. * Develop cohesive and streamlined process to meet all MMSEA compliance & reporting obligations (Mandatory Insurer Reporting and Medicare Secondary Payer), and provide training thereof. * Develop cohesive and streamlined process to meet all ISO compliance and reporting obligations (including child support liens). * Identify insurer state reporting obligations for certain lines of business, including National Practitioner Database reporting, and oversight of proper reporting thereof. * Ensure all claims correspondence meets regulatory requirements of the various states—including proper state fraud warnings on coverage letters. * Coordinate with Legal Department on claims responses to all market conduct examinations, as well as responses to DOI complaints. * Develop and administer regulatory training program to address various compliance requirements as set for above. * Oversight of processes and protocols designed to adhere to strict compliance obligations for workers compensation product line. * Oversight and due diligence review of third party administrators, including audit thereof, to affirm compliance obligations. * Oversight of insurtech opportunities and/or innovative technologies to support and foster broader claims compliance.
