The Manager, BSOM Information Services has a primary focus to spearhead the strategic development and implementation of cutting-edge technological solutions that optimize academic computing to meet the educational objectives and priorities of BSOM. This position is responsible for overseeing the planning, implementation, and management of technology resources and services that support teaching, learning and research activities across the Boonshoft School of Medicine (BSOM) of Wright State University that enhance learning experiences and streamline operational efficiency within the organization. The manager plays a crucial role in ensuring the reliability, accessibility, and security of IT systems and services that support the academic functions of BSOM.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, technology or closely related field and 8 years relevant, progressive work experience or equivalent education/work experience.

  • Relevant experience would be in IT management, enterprise project management or programmer and/or analyst or closely related field.

  • Three years of supervisory experience.

  • At least 1 year of project management experience, preferably for IT projects.

  • Knowledge of managing administrative systems to support business processes, integrated systems development planning, system administration and management, data system security, technical operations of database management, and high-level trouble shooting experience with network-based systems.

  • Business analysis and documentation experience.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Skill in managing multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to manage and work well in diverse teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or Technology preferred.

  • Experience working in IT within an education setting.

Essential Functions and percent of time:

35% BSOM Academic Technologies

  • Develop and implement innovative strategic plans for academic computing that align with the BSOM's educational goals and priorities, identifying emerging technologies that can enhance learning and support BSOM operations, and ensuring that technology initiatives are integrated with the broader goals.

  • Responsible for the oversight and effective management and operations of all IT services and systems for BSOM

  • Understand program and business process trends and issues, identify the practical implications of new technologies, and relate technical capabilities to goals.

  • Manage the process of planning, developing, implementing technology modernization and other technological debt mitigation projects. These include but are not limited to Filemaker migration projects and migrating Elentra to the cloud. Management includes project scope, scale, budget, and feature planning.

  • Technologies include a mix of packaged solutions and custom-built applications such as the BSOM Academic Management System (Elentra), Classroom/Lab technologies, custom built applications (File· Devemaker Pro, web development in PHP/mySQL) and reporting technologies.

  • Develop, establish, and maintain technology standards and procedures.

Essential Functions and percent of time (cont'd):

30% Project management

  • Provide oversight on the technical aspects of projects, establishing scope, timelines, and IT resource assignments.

  • Work with the administration and university departments to define needs, issues and develop standard methods of solution, support, and administration.

  • Gather requirements from stakeholders and related to academic technology needs.

  • To research, develop, plan, test, and implement new functionality and applications for BSOM.

  • Identify inefficiencies and recommend improvements with a focus on improving academic computing processes and workflows.

  • Ensure QA plans are defined and executed on projects.

  • Serves as a liaison to internal/external departments and entities managing IT-related contractual agreements, technical issues, security processes, and maintenance processes ensuring that adequate documentation is completed in accordance with regulatory compliance.

25% Academic IT support

  • Manage the day-to-day maintenance and provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance for IT infrastructure such as academic software, online learning platforms, classroom technologies, and research tools used by faculty and students to leverage technology effectively in support of teaching, learning, and research objectives.

  • Ensure that IT infrastructures are secure, reliable, and scaled to meet the changing needs of BSOM.

  • Provide technical support and training to faculty, staff, and students on the use of academic computing resources and services.

  • Promote effective use of technology, identifying opportunities for improvements and innovation.

  • Coordinate with other IT teams to ensure seamless integration and collaboration in delivering overall IT services.

  • Develop and implement support processes and procedures to ensure efficient and effective resolution of issues reported by both customers and systems.

  • Lead, coordinate, and identify risks to determine, develop and implement technology-related policies, plans, and operational procedures to assure the protection, confidentiality, integrity, and availability of BSOM information and IT resources.

10% Leadership

  • Lead a team responsible for planning, implementing, and maintaining technology initiatives supporting medical education.

  • Manage and oversee the team performance including team member's cross training, mentoring, conducting performance evaluations.

  • Provide input during budget planning and track budget utilization during the fiscal year.
