What You'll Do

Cisco IT is building the next generation of the cloud-native stack. Cloud-Native Transformation is a rare opportunity to transform not only how infrastructure services are provided, but also how applications are developed, tested, deployed and operated (DevOps). In addition, this presents an opportunity to expand the suite of cloud-native shared services beyond the traditional set of IT constituents, thus building the foundation of the company's Secure Digital Platform. At the heart of the new stack lies a set of core Enterprise Platform Services. Responsibilities include:

  • Manage an engineering team to build, support, and lead infrastructure Web platforms running Cisco's critical business operations applications.

  • Java/J2EE, NodeJS, JBoss, Tomcat, Python, Go, Perl, language platforms operating on WebLogic, Openshift, Kubernetes, Web Servers, and HTTPS request load balancing and routing in a secure manner.

  • Provide a leading edge, highly available container as a service platform as applications evolve to a cloud-native architecture.

  • Lead new application provisioning automation, support application stakeholders, develop, maintain and upgrade platform technology, and develop and lead a team of site reliability engineers.

  • Manage capacity forecasts and pricing models to bill for platform usage.

  • Handle problem resolution through monitoring, alerts, and proactive fixes.

Who You'll Work With

You will be part of the cloud infrastructure services team that is responsible for the data center service offerings in Cisco Operations. You will partner with other infrastructure teams providing network, compute and storage infrastructure for you to build the Web platforms. You will engage with customer application teams using these Web platforms. You will work with leading cloud platform products in building and operating the next generation of web application platforms.

Who You Are

You have solid experience with incident management, keeping uptime for critical services, 24x7 operational support, service capacity planning. You can manage a global team of Service Reliability Engineers, supporting the critical production infrastructure.

  • BS in Computer Science (or related) plus 8+ years experience

  • Experience with Java/J2EE/Cloud native application architectures.

  • 3+ years in a technical management position

  • 3+ years of software development and software operational experience

  • Software development experience in Java, C, Go, or Python and ability to do code reviews.

  • Experience with project management of technical projects, upgrades, migrations, new platform deployments, and capabilities.

  • Knowledge of networking TCP/IP, HTTP, HTTPS, DMZ, firewalls.

  • Experience with Linux, Dockers, and Kubernetes.

  • Experience with configuration management and automation tools like Ansible, Chef, Puppet and with CI/CD driven DevOps automation to prevent problems proactively.

  • Experience with modern virtualization technologies including containers, VMware, OpenStack, and other open-source solutions.

  • Knowledge of application platforms such as Apache, Nginx, Tomcat.

  • Mentor, hire and develop technical talent within your team.

  • Superb communication and partner management skills
