POSITION SUMMARY:

The Manager of Advancement plays a crucial role in generating financial support from alumni, parents, foundations, corporations, and individuals to uphold the mission and vision of Pacific Oaks College & Children's School. This position involves donor development, fundraising, and providing guidance to donors, prospective donors, and institutional leadership. Collaborating with various departments and the Pacific Oaks Children's School, the Manager works to foster alumni engagement and advance institutional goals.

Reporting directly to the President, this role is based in Pasadena, CA.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

The incumbent normally receives little instruction on day-to-day work and receives general instructions on new assignments.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Minimal or no supervisory responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Leadership and Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with the President and various stakeholders.

  • Lead efforts to engage supporters and expand the network.

  • Oversee logistics for special events.

  • Coordinate with the Parent Association for fundraising events.

Fundraising Strategy and Execution:

  • Develop and support fundraising plans.

  • Manage portfolios of prospects and major donors.

  • Monitor and track major gift solicitations.

  • Conduct comprehensive analyses of fundraising programs.

Relationship Building:

  • Build relationships with boards, alumni, and supporters.

  • Support and nurture alumni relationships locally and globally.

  • Maintain regular communication with alumni and supporters.

  • Support the Alumni Association and fundraising initiatives.

Administrative and Financial Management:

  • Manage donor database administration within CRM/Fundraising software.

  • Manage department budgets and forecast fundraising income.

Miscellaneous:

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Willingness to work occasional evening and weekend hours.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Communication and Financial Management:

  • Excellent knowledge of business communication and financial management.

Time and Project Management:

  • Excellent time and project management skills, ability to set priorities, and handle multiple projects.

Technical Skills:

  • Knowledge of Razor's Edge and similar software preferred.

Interpersonal Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work with diverse stakeholders and communities.

Problem-solving and Decision-making:

  • Ability to initiate and develop protocols and processes for the department.

  • Ability to problem solve using sound judgment and decision-making abilities.

Independence and Initiative:

  • Ability to act independently and make recommendations to the President.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education:

  • Required: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

  • Preferred: Master's degree.

  • Experience

  • Required:

  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience managing medium to large-scale projects in the education or non-profit sector;

  • Minimum of 3 years of special event oversight experience required.

  • Preferred:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in an Advancement department at an Institute of Higher Education (IHE) and external affairs.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

The noise level in the work environment is usually quite to moderately noisy while in the office. The office temperature is about 70 degrees.

DECISION MAKING:

The position is governed by the policies of Pacific Oaks, along with established procedures for the department. Independent judgment is required in the supervision of personnel as well as in the carrying out of the department's strategic goals and budget management.

CONTACT RESPONSIBILITIES:

Routine exchange or presentation of information.

Responsible for demonstrating professionalism and leadership in resolving conflicts with students and employees. Recommends alternative approaches to solve problems and conflicts.

FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY:

This position does not require the management of budgets, but it is required to follow Pacific Oaks policies for purchasing and budget approvals.

Compensation & Benefits

This opportunity is budgeted at $66,560.00-73,170.00 base compensation. Additional compensation factors may impact total compensation.
