Position Purpose

The Corporate Accounting team is responsible for the general accounting activities associated with various SG&A expenses including Payroll and Fringe Expense, Bonus, Self-insurance reserves, Advertising, Interest and Debt, Supply Chain and other store operating expenses. The Accounting Manager is responsible for the accounting functions and preparation of Home Depot's financial statements, establishes and maintains accounting practices to ensure accurate and reliable data necessary for GAAP and SOX compliance, drives process improvements and ensures the team's compliance with departmental strategies and leadership initiatives.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities

  • Plan and manage monthly and year-end close process for assigned areas; review account reconciliations and ensure timely and accurate booking of transactions to the General Ledger

  • Produce timely and accurate monthly financial statements; provide analysis on financial information, including supporting revenue and expense schedules; distribute and communicate the financial results to appropriate parties

  • Collaborate and partner with cross-functional teams including Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A), Treasury, Payroll, Compensation, Risk Management, Tax, Financial Reporting and internal and external auditors

  • Define Sarbanes-Oxley requirements for processes and manage compliance; define critical controls, develop and update process documents, identify opportunities to improve quality, efficiency, and effectiveness; review process documentation and internal control testing to ensure compliance

  • Assist in significant ad-hoc projects including streamlining existing processes and implementation of reporting structure changes

  • Serve as a knowledge expert and assist cross-functional teams in considering the accounting implications of restructuring projects and intercompany transactions

  • Review, interpret and evaluate accounting and reporting pronouncements issued by the various authoritative accounting organizations for assigned accounts

  • Make decisions on how the department operates and is responsible for the department as a whole

  • Act as a mentor for the team and guide associates in developing leadership skills

  • Identify and own process improvements from beginning to end

Nature and Scope

  • This position typically reports to a Senior Manager

  • Typically manages a team of 4-6 associates in this role on a permanent basis

  • Strong analytical skills, ability to research issues to solve problems

  • Must be able to adjust and work effectively in a dynamic and changing environment

  • Ability to communicate effectively and confidently across all levels of management

Environmental Job Requirements

Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must be eighteen years of age or older.

Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.

Education Required

  • The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree in accounting/finance.

Years of Relevant Work Experience

  • 5 years of related experience.

Physical Job Requirements

  • Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

Preferred Qualifications

CPA, CPA track OR International equivalent
