The Opportunity:

The successful candidate will be a high-energy professional that has developed technical accounting skill and wants to apply these skills to the accounting close process. This person must be an outstanding communicator and team player who demonstrates strong attention to detail, and who also understands how to support the long term strategy of the business. We expect that this person will have a background in public accounting.

Position Summary:

The Accounting Manager is responsible for coordinating and managing the general accounting functions required to provide timely and accurate financial data. These responsibilities include supervising accounting staff to effectively maintain the general ledger, general ledger accounts and related internal controls. The position reports to the Sr. Accounting Manager in Watertown, MA.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
35% Month End Close

  • Oversees the completion of month end general ledger close and financial statements.

  • Assist in the preparation and analysis of month end balance sheet and P&L accounts.

  • Work with departments within the Company to ensure accurate cutoff procedures

  • Oversees month end close accruals

  • Perform general ledger reconciliations, including subsidiary ledgers, on a monthly basis.
    35% Audit and Process Improvement

  • Prepares and reviews audit PBC requests

  • Evaluates and makes appropriate improvements to internal accounting processes ensuring practices are in line with the overall goals of the organization.

  • Ensure Sox controls are being followed and tracked
    15% Management

    Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the direct supervision of the general accounting staff.

  • Defines roles and responsibilities of direct reports.

  • Responsible for selecting, hiring, and maintaining direct reports.

  • Sets and monitors annual performance goals & objectives, including responsibility for performance appraisals.

  • Responsible for development of direct reports, by identifying training needs and providing training and/or development opportunities.

  • Termination/disciplinary authority of direct reports

  • Recommends or initiates personnel action.
    15% Special Projects

  • Assist in cross training functions and team development

  • Perform projects, ad hoc analysis and such other accounting, financial, or administrative tasks as may be required from time to time

Education, Experience, &

Skills:
  • Bachelor of Science in Accounting, CPA or CPA in process required

  • Broad knowledge of accounting principles and standard and comfort teaching those skills

  • Internal controls (SOX) experience

  • Experience with large ERP systems, preferably Oracle or Oracle Fusion preferred

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and work closely with and as part of the corporate team

  • Capable of critical thinking and problem solving

  • Attention to detail and accuracy

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to interface with people at all levels

  • Must be able to effectively handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast paced environment

  • Self-motivated and directed

  • Willingness to expand range of responsibilities as needed based on the evolution of the company and the role

  • Experience in a fast-paced work environment is absolutely required

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a growing team

Systems savvy: This person will have accounting and CRM systems experience as well as a proven track record of working with systems updates, implementations and/or projects
