SWEETWATER UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL HIGH SCHOOL DEFINITION To provide administrative and technical staff assistance to the principal; to assume responsibility for major portions of school operation; and to assume operational charge in the absence of the principal. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED Receives direction from the principal high school.

Exercises direct supervision over assigned site certificated and classified staff. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Assist in developing, planning and implementing school site goals and objectives; recommend and administer policies and procedures; confer with staff on schoolrelated matters.

Assume responsibility for the curriculum and supervision of instruction within specified curricular areas; encourage innovative curricular and cocurricular programs. Assist in evaluating the effectiveness of the instructional program of the school; coordinate school activities with those of other schools and outside agencies and organizations; develop and maintain cooperative relationships with parents, organizations and the community; serve as spokesperson for the school to people both within and outside the school and district organization. Assume responsibility for student behavior and discipline programs; direct and implement discipline and recognition standards and procedures related to student behavior and achievement.

Participate in recommending the appointment of personnel to approved site positions; assist in providing or coordinating staff training; assist in working or work with employees to correct deficiencies; assist in implementing discipline procedures; assist in recommending employee terminations. Assist in developing the master schedule of course offerings; adjust schedule to school, student and staff needs; plan, organize and administer preregistration activities. Coordinate the site's special education, severely handicapped, gifted, magnet, learning center, pupil assessment, work permit and student aid programs; provide direction for counseling programs; supervise and coordinate the testing programs at the site; chair meetings for other special programs.

Supervise and coordinate attendance accounting procedures. Supervise, coordinate, and evaluate site health services. Sweetwater Union High School District Assistant Principal High School EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Assume the duties of plant manager; originate and evaluate requests of the staff for repairs and maintenance to buildings, grounds, and equipment; coordinate facilities use by school, community and external agencies.

Assist in providing and monitoring a learning environment which recognizes the state curriculum frameworks, college admission requirements, vocational preparation, citizenship and the individual needs of students, including language and cultural differences, maturational differences and differences in learning styles. Coordinate and supervise schoolaffiliated club activities, extracurricular activities, proms, banquets, campus assemblies, cheerleading program, campus concession sales and student store; assist in the supervision of student activities such as lunch, passing periods, assemblies, concerts, dances and sports events; assign and supervise faculty for all student activities. Assist in preparation and administration of the school budget including allocation of resources to individuals and departments within the school.

Attend to student/parent concerns; assist in reporting pupil progress to parents and appropriate school district offices; meet with probation officers, social workers, parents and foster parents as necessary to facilitate continuation of students' education; prepare related reports for juvenile court hearings. Assist in the implementation of those provisions of federal, state and district rules and regulations assuring student and parent due process; assist in the provision of notification of students and parents as required by statute.

Assist in ensuring confidentiality of all student records as required by statute.

Assist in maintaining a safe and orderly school environment. Assist in providing for the safety of students participating in all extracurricular activities, including those participating in interscholastic athletic activities. Make referrals to the supervisor of attendance, district psychologist, appropriate law enforcement representatives and social welfare agencies in connection with serious student problems.

Initiate and approve intradistrict and ethnic transfers; verify residences of students. Prepare and present reports, letters, memorandums, and other necessary correspondence to students, staff and parents regarding school site matters. Supervise and coordinate cafeteria services; supervise the free and reduced lunch programs; approve offcampus permits, lunch passes and visitor passes.

Supervise the verification of eligibility for students representing the school in athletics. Coordinate and chair the Student Assistance Team. Supervise districtprovided transportation of students to and from school; coordinate procurement of all buses for student activity transportation.

Coordinate emergency program relating to fire, civil defense and emergency situations. Perform related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of:

Curriculum, instructional approaches, strategies and materials and current trends in alternative and nontraditional educational settings. Testing programs pertinent to secondary schools. Principles, practices, rules and regulations pertaining to student discipline.

Principles and practices of budget preparation and administration. Principles and practices of organization, administration and personnel management, including supervision, training and performance evaluation. Employer-employee relations and contract administration.

Effective public relations programs and techniques. General school district policies, rules and regulations. State and local laws, policies and regulations pertaining to juveniles, foster homes and mandated court placement.

Pertinent federal, state, district and local laws, codes and regulations regarding the administration of the school's educational and extracurricular programs and activities. Computer applications related to areas of specialization. Ability to:

Analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of goals. Plan, organize and supervise an effective testing program. Plan and implement an effective student discipline program.

Coordinate and direct student activities and related programs. Elicit support, assistance and cooperation of industry and community groups. Utilize the principles of conflict management.

Understand individual student needs. Delegate duties and tasks, oversee their administration and provide necessary input. Plan, organize and chair meetings.

Exercise leadership through the use of organizational, supervisory and interpersonal skills. Select, supervise, train and evaluate assigned staff. Assist in the preparation and administration of a school budget.

Implement the use of computer software programs, hardware, and other technology pertinent to areas of specialization. Learn, interpret and correctly apply district policies, rules and regulations. Effectively analyze and interpret data; apply, interpret, and communicate applicable federal, state and local policies, procedures, laws and regulations; prepare and present oral and written reports and findings to a diverse audience; and effectively represent the school district to the community.

Establish and maintain cooperative professional working relationships in the performance of position responsibilities. Three years of successful secondary school teaching experience. School administrative experience is desired. Training: Equivalent to a master's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in education with emphasis in educational administration, or a related field. License or Certificate Possession of, or ability to obtain, a California Administrative Services Credential, or equivalent, authorizing administrative services at the secondary school level. 7/22/93
