Duties

  • Leading the implementation of the NED Communication Strategy.

  • Leading the NED Communication Advisory Group, which coordinates division wide communication activities.

  • Drafting and implementing communication plans in support of NED initiatives.

  • Liaising with FEMA stakeholders outside of NED, including the National Preparedness Directorate and the Office of External Affairs.

  • Supervising the work of contact staff working on communication products like newsletters and conference abstracts.

  • Drafting communication products including talking points, fact sheets, newsletter articles, social media posts, presentations, etc.

  • Managing the NED Communication Hub SharePoint page.

  • Planning NED conference engagement.

  • Must be a current permanent Federal employee

  • Must have supervisory approval to apply to the Joint Duty Assignment. DHS 250-2 Application Form under "required documents" section.

  • Must NOT have any pending/outstanding disciplinary actions

  • Must have achieved a minimum of "meet expectations/proficiency" on latest performance appraisal/evaluation

  • Must be currently at the grade level of the detail.

Qualifications

Qualifications required:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience drafting public facing newsletters, social media, talking points, press releases, and presentations.

  • Experience drafting and implementing communication plans.

  • Experience working with SharePoint.

  • An interest in emergency management and disaster preparedness.

  • Experience working with Microsoft Power Apps is desired but not necessary.

  • Complete the DHS Training Course 15 days prior to the arrival to the JDA.

  • Complete the DHS Joint Duty Assignment Progress Plan to include:

  • Phase 1: Establish assignment objectives within the first 30 days of the JDA.

  • Phase 2: Complete a self-assessment of the duties performed at the mid-point of the JDA.

  • Phase 3: Complete a final review within the last 30 days of the JDA.
