Changemaker Central is seeking a community and civic minded individual for the position of Management Intern for Service and Civic Engagement. This position is responsible for supporting student leaders and professional staff in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of programs that promote a culture of service and civic engagement at ASU. This position will support the implementation of monthly days of service and the associated logistics, as well as assist and reinforce Changemaker Central in maintaining, expanding, and deepening partnerships and collaborations through nonprofit organizations, related university departments, and student organizations to create additional opportunities for students to promote student driven social change.

In supporting Civic Engagement within Changemaker Central, the MI for Service and Civic Engagement will play a vital role in facilitating and promoting meaningful community involvement among ASU students. The responsibilities will include coordinating civic engagement initiatives, collaborating with local organizations and other ASU student organizations and departments such as, the ASU Civic Engagement Coalition in organizing events and campaigns to encourage active citizenship and social responsibility. Additionally, they will provide guidance and resources to students interested in civic action, empowering them to address pressing societal issues and make a positive impact in their communities.

Changemaker Space Management

The Management Intern at Changemaker Central, will play a crucial role in overseeing and managing the day-to-day operations of the Changemaker Central space. Responsibilities will include, in collaboration with professional staff, coordinating and scheduling space usage and coverage, overseeing the setup and maintenance of equipment and resources, and ensuring a welcoming and inclusive environment for all visitors. Through leadership and applied organizational skills, the MI will contribute to creating a vibrant and dynamic space where students can explore their passions, develop their skills, and make a positive impact on the world around them.

Marketing Support

As a Changemaker Central Brand Ambassador, the MI will work with student leaders, professional staff, and EOSS Marketing to support all the elements of a Changemaker marketing strategy, including the Changemaker weekly newsletter. They will support and guide Changemaker student leaders in digital and social media content production and implementation working collaboratively with an active student leader committee to develop brand awareness campaigns and manage unpaid/paid media activities to garner attention from our ASU students and engage them in changemaking efforts.

DAYS AND SCHEDULE: Work location is primarily at the Tempe campus; however, incumbent may be required to travel to off-campus events and other ASU campuses to perform work driving their own vehicle. This is a 20 hour per week position, and may include some nights and weekends, with flexible days and hours based on programming needs. This Internship program is a short term-position of a 12-month experience or less. An additional one-year extension may be offered contingent upon an annual review. Candidate is required to be enrolled in a Graduate Program during the duration of employment and continuation of employment will be based on enrollment in a Graduate Program.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience in community service and service learning programs and practices.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of college/university student organization advising techniques.

Essential Duties

  • Assist in the development and support of student lead service and civic engagement programs, including researching best practices to provide guidance, designing training materials, and support event planning.

  • Help student leaders coordinate volunteer activities and service projects, including recruitment and outreach, training, and supervision of volunteers.

  • Assist student leaders in engaging with the ASU community, student organizations, and stakeholders to assess interests and needs, build partnerships, and promote civic participation.

  • Assist student leaders in planning and executing events related to service and civic engagement, such as volunteer fairs, community forums, and service days.

  • Collect and analyze data related to service activities and civic engagement initiatives, to contribute to continuous program improvement.

  • Support communication efforts related to service and civic engagement, including social media outreach, website updates, and newsletter development and support as well as develop and deliver Changemaker training sessions and workshops for volunteers and ASU community members on social change topics.

  • Promote Changemaker Central within the university community and beyond by developing marketing strategies, maintaining an active online presence, and organizing outreach events to attract new members and partners.

  • Collaborate with other departments, organizations, and institutions to expand the reach and impact of Changemaker Central's programs and initiatives.

  • Manage the Changemaker Central physical space to ensure that it is well-maintained, clean, and organized ensuring that the space serves as a welcoming and collaborative environment for students, faculty, and community members.

  • Coordinate events, workshops, and meetings held within Changemaker Central, including managing event logistics such as room reservations, AV equipment setup, catering arrangements (where applicable), and signage.
