Working Environment

  • Must be enrolled in a Graduate Program during the course of employment

  • Most activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office or academic setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse

  • Some events and tabling will occur outside with varied exposure to the elements

  • Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work

  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds

  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions

  • Regular use of standard office equipment including, but not limited to: computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, fax, calculator, copier, telephone and associated computer/technology peripherals

The Management Intern is part of a one Career Services team model that provides a variety of career advisement services to students and recent alumni through every step of the career & professional development process. Career Services serves ASU students and new alumni through engagement opportunities tailored to their unique backgrounds, talents, experiences, academic preparation and professional goals. Our focus is to ensure career readiness as defined by the National Association of Colleges & Employers: Career Readiness is the attainment and demonstration of requisite competencies that broadly prepare college graduates for a successful transition into the workplace. We help Sun Devils succeed at every step of their career development process from learning about majors and career options, to finding an internship or first job out of college. We offer professional career advice and are a valuable resource for job outlook, salary and employment trend information.

Career Services provides commensurate programs, services, and resources at all four Phoenix area locations, as well as ASU Online. Staff work collaboratively with leadership and staff at each location, and as part of the Educational Outreach and Student Services (EOSS) Vice Presidential area. EOSS provides the ASU student community with support services, involvement opportunities and a rich Sun Devil experience to assist students in achieving their personal and academic goals.   • Evidence of a Bachelor's Degree.

  • At least 1 year of experience working with students in a college setting.

  • Currently pursuing a Master's Program

  • Enrolled in an academic program at the West Valley Campus or through ASU Online with availability to work in-person at the West Valley Campus.

  • Experience supporting students from diverse backgrounds.

  • Experience in presenting to large and small groups.

  • experience prioritizing workload and meet multiple deadlines.

  • Evidence of effective communication skills.

  • Experience in Microsoft Office applications and database management systems (e.g., Outlook, PowerPoint, Google Drive).

  • Experience in work that requires attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Graduate Student in a closely related field of study

Essential Duties

Partnership and Collaboration:

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with campus partners, including the housing team and student organizations, to identify and address the career and professional development needs of students.

  • Foster a network of support for career-related initiatives through continuous collaboration and communication with campus partners.

Program Development and Delivery:

  • Design and implement career workshops, presentations, programs and resources tailored to the interests and needs of students at the West Valley campus.

  • Facilitate small and large group sessions, as well as one-on-one advising, to support students' career exploration and development.

  • Assist with the logistics of implementing programs including drafting budgets, finding available spaces, organizing agendas and drafting marketing materials.

Engagement and Outreach:

  • Strategically outreach to student clubs and organizations at the West Valley campus to increase awareness of Career Services support and resources as well as assess career interests and subsequent career readiness needs.

  • Collaborate with student clubs and organizations to increase Career Services presence/support at existing events and develop new, creative programs.

  • Actively engage with students in various settings, including in-person and virtual platforms, to promote career services and resources.

  • Research potential employers and ASU alumni who are aligned with the career interests of West Valley students.

  • Assist with department and university-wide initiatives such as Fall Welcome, Family Weekend, and Homecoming.

Career Advising:

  • Advise students on exploring career options, resume writing, job and internship search strategies, networking, and interview skills.

  • Assist students in making informed career decisions, developing effective internship/job search plans, and exploring/preparing applications for graduate school programs.

  • Record and report data related to appointments, event participation, student assessments, and other responsibilities.

Work Schedule and Location: You can expect to work some set days/hours within a Mon-Fri, 8 a.m.

  • 5 p.m. schedule in the Career Services office. Flexibility is key as this position involves supporting events and activities which may occur outside of normal business hours including evenings and weekends. A specific work schedule will be arranged upon hire for 20 hours a week. We understand that schedules will change from semester to semester depending on your courses.

This Internship program is a short term-position of a 12-month experience or less. An additional one-year extension may be offered contingent upon an annual review. Candidate is required to be enrolled in a Graduate Program during the duration of employment and continuation of employment will be based on enrollment in a Graduate Program.
