The purpose of this position is to coordinate, develop, assist and maintain procedures and systems to adequately and properly maintain cadet online applications, cadet and program evaluation assessment databases; operate equipment required to maintain the info rmation systems; coordinate with the National Guard Bureau in providing required reports and information; prepare reports and records as required by National Guard Bureau, North Carolina National Guard and the Academy Director. Maintain all computers located in computer labs, classrooms, and staff offices; maintain all servers and wireless network; Maintain and regularly update the Academy website, social media page/s, and all automation application features; serve as the NCID administrator for the academy; coord inate with TCA staff to ensure necessary communication, connectivity, and support as may be needed. Capture, record, produce electronic records (video and still photo) of various cadet activities and events; assist with supplemental resources/training aids, cla ssroom setup, preparation and use of audio-visual materials as may be required; transport and supervise cadets when participating in off site academy activities as needed

This position requires the ability to:

  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions

  • Must be able to lift, move and manipulate heavy objects of at least 50 pounds

  • Utilize tact, patience, and superior organizational skills

  • Ensure accuracy in work performed, such as inventory counts

  • Must be able to travel overnight.

This is a full time position (40 hours per week) with Benefits.

The mission of DPS is to safeguard and preserve the lives and property of the people of North Carolina through prevention, protection, and preparation with integrity and honor.  Included in this department are Alcohol Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice Information Network, Emergency Management, Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, NC National Guard, NC Office of Recovery and Resiliency, Samarcand Training Academy, State Capitol Police, and State Highway Patrol.   Also included are these Boards and Commissions: ABC Commission, Governor's Crime Commission, Private Protective Services Commission, and Boxing & Combat Sports Commission.  DPS is comprised of approximately 6,000 permanent positions and nearly 13,000 NC National Guard temporary positions.

About The Tarheel ChalleNGe Academy:

The Tarheel ChalleNGe Academy is a quasi-military style residential program for at risk youth 16-18 years of age and is sponsored by the North Carolina National Guard. The mission of the Academy is to redirect the efforts of young adults who have had trouble succeeding in the normal high school environment and give them the skills to become productive citizens in their communities.

The Knowledge, Skills and Abilities listed below, along with the Minimum Education and Experience requirements, are REQUIRED to qualify for this position.  We will not review resumes in lieu of Experience and Education listed on the application.

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:

  • Experience in a range of technical understanding to independently resolve routine and non-routine issues with computer software, hardware, network security, connectivity and troubleshooting multimedia and network issues.

  • Experience documenting solutions that solve client problems and clearly presents these solutions to adequately address issues, problems, etc.

  • Experience training, observing, familiarizing, and evaluating others in specific training or tasks relative to appropriate use of all multimedia/audio visual/computer equipment.

  • Experience utilizing Windows and Microsoft Office platform including Word, Power Point, Excel, Publisher, Access, and Outlook.

Necessary Special Qualifications and Requirements:

Required to complete the following training provided by TCA: Required to complete Staff Acclimation Course, Foundation Course, First Aid, Cardio-Pulmonary /Resuscitation (CPR

(Recertify every two years), Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Certification, Gang Awareness, Conflict Resolution, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training and Functional Training.

Per 5 CFR 731, upon appointment, applicant must be able to obtain a favorable suitability and fitness determination from a Tier 1 background investigation conducted by the Office of Personnel Management. Failure to obtain a favorable determination may result in termination of employment.      Some state job postings say you can qualify by an "equivalent combination of education and experience."   If that language appears below, then you may qualify through EITHER years of education OR years of directly related experience, OR a combination of both.  See oshr.nc.gov/experience-guide for details.

Bachelor's degree in computer science or an IT related field from an appropriately accredited institution plus one year of experience in the information technology field related to the position's role.

or

Associate degree in computer science or an IT related field from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in the information technology field related to the position's role.

or
