Mammography Technologist A Brief Overview Performs radiology examinations and mammographic imaging procedures for diagnostic purposes. Provides on-call and callback coverage as required. What you will do Reviews patient#s medical record prior to each mammogram examination to obtain and record identifying information required for the procedure and patient records. Demonstrates knowledge and skills and maintains competencies required to provide care appropriate to age of the patients served within department. Assesses and selects proper techniques for a given patient study and circumstance. Selects and prepares equipment and supplies as needed for each exam/procedure. Exercises judgment in selecting proper equipment/computer settings. Informs and explains examination purposes and procedures to the patient prior to commencement of testing in a caring, compassionate and sensitive manner. Performs various mammographic imaging procedures as ordered by physician, consistent with patient care policies and procedures, demonstrated competencies, and with consideration given to risk management, infection control practices, patient safety practices and departmental activities.

• Practices proper aseptic techniques and universal precautions according to approved procedure.

• Positions and immobilizes patient. Instructs patients regarding procedures as applicable.

• Performs procedures (mammograms, breast biopsies, etc.) operating a variety of radiographic and support equipment, including mammographic, ultrasound, stereotactic breast biopsy machines to produce desired images.

• Performs patient studies as qualified by education, skill, competency, and experience.

• Monitors patient condition and equipment during procedure.

• Reports adverse or any unusual reactions or events.

• Records and prepares images of Mammogram for viewing in accordance with established standard procedures for physician#s interpretation of the exam and long-term storage.

• Recognizes and corrects technical errors to ensure a clear and accurate scan/image.

• Provides staff and patient protection in accordance with prescribed radiation safety standards.

• Ensures accurate documentation in performing and processing all procedures including proper ordering, charging, and computer entry.

• Operates the Radiology Information System to enter required test data and patient information, using all appropriate modules with accuracy. Ensures patient information and images are correctly transmitted to PACS system. Documents care based on standards of care and practice and/or clinical priorities for documentation (assessment, mammogram procedure, and patient#s response during procedure). Confers and works collaboratively with patient/family/hospital staff in a customer responsive and courteous manner, in compliance with iRESPECT standards and promoting patient/customer satisfaction to achieve positive patient outcomes. Maintains confidentiality in matters relating to patient/family, department and hospital information. Adheres to established department and organization policies (i.e. HIPAA, Confidentiality, and Compliance Policies). Responds appropriately to emergency situations and notifies appropriate personnel. Maintains required department records, reports and files. Utilizes patient computer system to enter and retrieve data. Provides support to radiology and other medical and hospital staff to provide clinical assistance as needed. Assists in orientation and supervision of new staff members and students when they provide patient care, treatment and services as part of their training. Participates in quality/performance improvement. Collects quality data for monitoring performance improvement and to produce the best value service. Completes required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements. Responds to problems/opportunities to improve work environment and participates in unit based performance improvement activities which includes committees, monitoring and follow-up. Assists in care and maintenance of equipment and effective utilization of supplies. Reports malfunction of equipment to supervisor. Maintains a clean, orderly, safe environment for patients and personnel. Prepares or cleans patient rooms by changing linens, stocking supplies and wiping off tables and equipment. Adheres to established policies, compliance/quality improvement, and safety, environment and infection control standards. Qualifications Graduate of an AMA approved program in radiology technology. Required and Qualified by education, training or experience to work with the adolescent, adult and/or geriatric patient population as specialty assignment dictates. Required and Additional training may be required in area of assignment. Required ARRT - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Upon Hire Required and CMT

• Certified Mammography Tech within 1 Year Required and TN State Licensure as X-Ray Operator must be obtained within 1 Year Required and CPR

• Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation Upon Hire Required or BCLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire Required Six (6) months Radiology Technology experience. Required Physical Demands Standing

Qualifications

• Graduate of an AMA approved program in radiology technology. Required and

• Qualified by education, training or experience to work with the adolescent, adult and/or geriatric patient population as specialty assignment dictates. Required and

• Additional training may be required in area of assignment. Required

• ARRT - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Upon Hire Required and

• CMT

• Certified Mammography Tech within 1 Year Required and
