Overland Park Regional Medical Center is one of the premiere medical facilities in Johnson County. Position Summary:
Under the general direction of the Radiologists and under the supervision of the Radiology Director and/or Manager and Mammography Team Leader, employee will:

  • Perform digital mammography, needle localization of the breast and/or stereotactic breast biopsies.

  • Perform biopsy imaging with Faxitron in the O.R. under the direction of the surgeon. Know how to send images to PACS

  • Function in direct cooperation with the physician and other radiology personnel.

  • Work within the guidelines established in the policy and procedure manual and comply with all radiation safety guidelines.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of sterile technique and practice Standard Precautions.

  • Perform associated duties, i.e. transporting patients when necessary, assembling all associated paperwork and mammograms (both previous and/or outside exams) to provide to radiologist for dictation and completing necessary documentation in Meditech and PACS.

  • Ability to lecture on mammography and breast self-examination, when necessary.

  • Perform DEXA scans on scheduled patients upon completion of cross training on DEXA system

  • May assist other areas of the Radiology Department and perform other duties as assigned..

Minimum Requirements:

Education: Graduate of an accredited program by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs CAAHEP), American Medical Association (AMA) or other accrediting agencies.

Licensure/ Kansas Licensure or eligible

Certifications: Current registry in good standing with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (A.R.R.T.) Current advance registry in Mammography or registry eligible. Certified in BCLS.

Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of work related experience in Mammography, including biopsies and stereotactic procedures preferred. Digital training and experience preferred. Must meet minimum digital training requirements prior to performing procedures independently.

Procedures can be performed at various locations throughout the Main Campus and at hospital associated imaging facilities. Competence is required for both fixed and mobile x-ray devices. Experience is required in high acuity areas, surgical areas and less acute out-patient customers. Radiologic Technologists are expected to participate in the training of student technologists. Responsibilities * Demonstrates flexibility in reviewing new approaches in response to changing organizational and healthcare needs. * Ensures that a high priority is recognized and observed by all staff relating to safety; this includes employees, patients, vendors and other customers. * Ensures that patients are treated in a timely fashion and that patient satisfaction requires technologist participation in the transport process. * Is responsible for reporting information to Radiology leadership in regard to potential hazards, safety, and/or behavioral demonstrations that do not provide for a safe and "World class" healthcare environment. * Must be competent in the use of all x-ray equipment, both fixed and mobile. Has the ability to provide this service throughout the department. Shows interest and initiative in assuring that personal competency requirements are met. * Provides input to Radiology Physician leadership in regard to interactions that provide "World Class" care in a teaching facility. Interacts with all hospital customers to assist with the patient and customer satisfaction and HCAPS scores.
