POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides imaging and patient care services at defined levels to patients.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Assesses and educates patients according to specific department protocols including BSE.

  • Implements radiation protection and safety standards to minimize radiation exposure to staff and patients.

  • Maintains a quality assurance program according to FDA and MQSA regulations.

  • Maintains mandated continuing education requirements.

  • Operates a variety of complex stationary and mobile diagnostic equipment. P

  • ositions patients and selects anatomic and technical parameters accurately.

  • Prepares and administers contrast media and/or medications within accepted scope of practice, and applicable state/federal regulations.

  • Prepares for and assists the physician in a variety of imaging and/or invasive procedures.

  • Serves as resource/mentor to department staff as well as other members of the health care team as needed.

  • May be required to train / precept students and new techs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/including Licensure/ Certification/ Registration:

  • ARRT Registered Technologist, R.T.(R) in good standing.

  • BLS Healthcare Provider CPR certification required.

  • CA State Licensure (CRT) is required.

  • CA State Mammography Licensure is required.

  • Mammography certification is required {RT(M)}; or mammography certification eligible.

  • Fluoroscopy license may be required as per state regulations.

  • Graduate of a JRCERT accredited educational program in radiography and mandated forty hours mammography education.

Knowledge:

Must be knowledgeable of technical factors and radiographic views. Understands radiation protection techniques to minimize radiation exposure to staff and patients. Able to recognize potential abnormalities and prioritize accordingly.

Experience:

Previous experiences as a Radiologic Technologist is required. Prior work experience in an acute care facility is preferable.

Skills:

Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work unsupervised or with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a rapidly changing and challenging environment and take appropriate actions in emergent situations.

General Qualifications Driver's License: Some positions in this class require a valid California Driver's License, Class C or higher prior to appointment to this class. Failure to maintain the appropriate California Driver's License may constitute cause for termination from the class in accordance with Civil Service Rule 11.4. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Failure to retain a valid license issued by the State of California as a Certified Radiologic Technologist constitutes cause for disciplinary action, including dismissal, in accordance with applicable Civil Service Commission Rules. Physical Requirements: * Constant walking or standing. * Lifting and moving patients. * Reaching and reaching above ones head. * Pulling, stooping, and pushing when operating equipment. * Manual dexterity as necessary to adjust machine controls and arrange, attach or adjust supportive devices. * Occasional lifting weights up to 30 pounds. * Visual acuity for assessing orders, operating equipment, and positioning/assessing patients. Criminal History and Background Checks: The County may access criminal history information on all candidates who have accepted a conditional offer of appointment for this class consistent with the provisions of Board of Supervisors Resolution No. 82-602, Personnel Policies and Procedure B-5, and applicable Federal and State law. The County shall not consider for employment any candidate who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor that relates to or impacts the candidate's ability to perform the job duties of this class unless it is determined that mitigating circumstances exist. For purposes of accessing criminal history information, the candidate will be fingerprinted. A subsequent arrest notification may be obtained. The background check may include personal and professional reference checks, credit history check, Social Security Number verification, professional license/registration verification, military service information and driving history. Working Conditions: * High voltage is applied during X-ray exposure. * Exposure to chemicals used in developing the films. * Incumbents work with ionizing radiation in compliance with State and Federal laws. Incumbents are behind protective barriers during exposure. All personnel must wear film badges that are monitored monthly for exposure. * Some positions in this class require travel to Juvenile Hall. Incumbents in these assignments must be willing to work in a locked facility around detainees. Probationary Period The probationary period for this classification is six (6) months.
