POSITION SUMMARY:

The Major Gifts Officer for SUA is responsible for managing the donor relations team efforts for Seattle Urban Academy (SUA). Work closely with foundation giving staff and corporate sponsorship staff. Lead a cultivation process to maximize donor giving over a 12 to 18 month period. Focus primarily on donors giving $1,000+ and high capacity prospects. Manage a portfolio of donors as well as lead the development strategy for SUA. Cultivate new and expanded relationships with donors through a strategic process of moves management in an effort to better understand their interests and to move them into a larger commitment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

DUTIES

  • Develop a 'moves management' strategy for all SUA Donors and manage a portfolio of donors.

  • Travel to engage donors locally. These visits could include announced or unannounced appointments at places of business, homes, and throughout the community.

  • Contact a targeted number of donors in a given week and month. Keep track of all communication and live contacts made through Salesforce.

  • Work with Senior Director of Donor Relations (SDDR) and the Director of Donor Relations (DDR) to implement a strategy and deliver on cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plan.

  • Develop in dialogue with performance indicators with SDDR and Executive Director of SUA.

  • Coordinate SUA site visits for donors.

  • Work collaboratively with Senior Director of Marketing, proposal writers, management, and support teams in developing the necessary collateral or possible talking points.

  • Generate reports as needed from Salesforce.

  • Develop a church engagement program.

  • Network with the church in the city of Seattle and the surrounding region that have a heart for ministry in the city.

  • Serve pastors and connect them and their church to work of SUA.

  • Manage SUA Donor Relations office.

  • Regular communication with SUA Executive Director about ministry needs and CDR performance.

  • Regular communication with CEO, President/COO, CFO about SUA Donor Relations activities, accomplishment and goals.

  • Ensure that reports for the ministry are developed and communicated.

  • Ensure that the office is well kept, supplied and well run.

  • Develop with CDR Team, gifts and premiums for donors and customers.

  • Work to create a positive team culture celebrations, birthdays, comings, and goings.

  • Participate as a team member of Resource Advancement and Donor Relations in meetings, prayer, devotions, and other opportunities.

  • Keep up to date on new marketing materials and field news that might be appropriate to donor's individual interests and donation commitments.

  • Work with the Events Team to ensure that SUA events are filled with appropriate audiences.

  • Strive to be involved in appropriate meetings and devotions with the team and faculty at SUA.

  • Provides primary planning and direction for Daybreak and Miracle fundraising events.

  • Have a strong working knowledge of all SUA programs and work to identify the giving and funding opportunities to be able to communicate SUA work to our donors and prospective donors.

  • Work collaboratively with supervisor, coworkers, and customers.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

Associate degree from an accredited college or university recognized by the United States Department of Education or equivalent. Relevant work experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

EXPERIENCE

Two years of success in fundraising or sales.

SOFTWARE / EQUIPMENT KNOWLEDGE

Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Reporting to the Regional CPO/President, the Executive Director/VP of Major Gifts for the Swedish Foundation serves as a key leadership team member and an active participant in making strategic decisions affecting the Swedish Medical Center Foundation. In partnership with the Regional CPO/President, this position is responsible for fundraising and development of major gift activities related to Swedish's key Institutes, campuses, and relevant medical programs. The VP will also work closely with the Board of Governors. The Executive Director/VP will mentor and coach the philanthropy officers (development officers) and respective support staff on the major gifts team to identify, quality, cultivate, solicit and steward major gift donors, and identify opportunities to strengthen, leverage and engage the organization's constituents and volunteers in meaningful ways. The Executive Director/VP leads a multi-year effort to substantially grow Swedish Health Services' annual philanthropic support. As part of the Foundation's leadership team, the Executive Director/VP shall assist with developing a system-wide philanthropy vision and strategy aligned with Swedish Medical Center Foundation's strategic goals and priorities. The Executive Director/VP shall assist in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, directing and evaluating all Swedish major gift activities to ensure all short- and long-term objectives are fully achieved. The Executive Director/VP develops new and more diverse sources of philanthropic support by emphasizing major gifts and seven transformational gifts, in order to generate an ROI that justifies a growing investment of resources in Swedish Medical Center Foundation fundraising capacity. The Executive Director/VP drives and implements a culture of philanthropy throughout the Swedish Medical Center Foundation, and works closely with Institute leadership, physician leaders and other caregivers to improve and expand the Foundation's grateful patient fundraising programs. At all times, the Executive Director/VP partners with Swedish Medical Center Foundation's leadership to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward key individuals, foundations, corporations and others. The Executive Director/VP manages a portfolio of approximately 50 major/principal gift – level prospects and donors and is responsible for achieving a personal philanthropic revenue goal each year. Required qualifications for this position: * Bachelor's Degree. * At least 10 or more years of professional fundraising experience in directing capital and/or comprehensive campaigns, as well as direct experience managing a large team of development officers with diverse department functions. * Personal ability to strategize on, cultivate, close and steward seven and eight figure gifts from philanthropists. * Interest, enthusiasm and affinity for fundraising and building relationships. * Very strong written and verbal communications skills. * Ability to enthusiastically convey the needs of the Swedish Health System to individuals, foundations and corporations. * Ability to relate and work effectively with people at all levels, both within the institution and beyond. Preferred qualifications: * Master's degree and/or CFRE Certification, or Ph.D. * At least 5 or more years of management level experience in a sophisticated, major gifts-oriented development shop with preference for healthcare or higher education experience. * Experience is Blackbaud CRM.
