Major Gifts Officer
Job Description:
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Advancement and regularly working with the Associate Athletic Director of Athletic Development and Revenue Generation, this position develops and maintains a portfolio of alumni, parents, and friends to primarily support Mount Athletics, but also the overall Mount St. Mary's University community. The position will carry a portfolio of 150-200 prospects and will work to identify, cultivate, and solicit major gift proposals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift prospects for philanthropic annual support and/or capital campaign/special projects related to Athletics and University priorities.
Provide individualized and strategic stewardship of new and existing donors with major gift capacity.
Work closely with coaches, teams, and other university departments, as assigned, to develop and execute annual fundraising plans and identify programmatic capital projects.
Collaborate with the senior athletics leadership team to offer insights and participate in fundraising and stewardship events, such as alumni games, golf outings, the Athletics Hall of Fame, and other athletic activities.
Maintain prospect records and contract reports within the Division of University Advancement's CRM system.
Meet or exceed agreed-upon fundraising goals, as determined on an annual basis with University Advancement and Athletics.
Job Requirements: Education, Experience and Skills:
Bachelor's Degree, preferably in a related field such as Business, Marketing, Sports Management, Communications, or Non-Profit Management.
3 years of fundraising experience with a proven track record of securing impactful gifts of $25,000 or more with a preference for intercollegiate athletics or professional sports.
A preference for athletics/non-profit experience working within an athletic department or sports organization.
Demonstrated experience in developing and maintaining relationships with high-net-worth individuals.
A preference for experience with capital campaigns and other large-scale fundraising initiatives.
Ability to represent the University at sponsored events, including evenings and weekends, to engage with donors, alumni, and stakeholders.
Ensure a strong university presence and cultivate relationships to support athletic fundraising goals.
This position requires significant travel, with up to 50% of time spent on the road to meet with donors and attend events, as well as significant hours on nights and weekends.
