Major Gifts Officer Development - Corporate Location

Major Gifts Officers work closely with physicians, volunteers, and staff to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward gifts of $100,000+. Moves management plans for each assigned prospect that will need to be developed and implemented. In order to be successful, Gifts Officers will need to work collaboratively with other staff in the Development Office and be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities include: managing a portfolio of approximately 150 major gift prospects, including personally soliciting these prospects, as appropriate, designing, implement, and assess effective strategies to cultivate and solicit major gift prospects, especially for priority programs and projects in the campaign and engaging as an appropriate, physicians, administration, volunteers, and staff, involving them in strategy development and solicitations, keeping them apprised of interactions, and collaborating to ensure maximum fundraising effectiveness. In this role, you will also serve as an effective spokesperson and representative for the Hospital and the campaign, join staff committees and various cultivation and stewardship events, as appropriate, work with staff to devise, coordinate, and obtain approval for donor recognition plans and maintain knowledge of relevant clinical developments and fundraising trends and provide outstanding service to all prospects and donors.

Required Criteria

  • Appreciation and understanding of NewYork-Presbyterian's mission and the ability to effectively communicate it.

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Minimum of 3 years of advanced development experience with demonstrated success soliciting and closing major gifts

  • Experience building and maintaining long-term relationships with major-gift level donors.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with a working knowledge of Excel and fundraising database

  • Solid experience managing and tracking multiple prospects and donors.

  • Demonstrated ability to navigate within a fast-paced, highly-complex organization emphasizing teamwork, respect, and excellence.

  • Strong organizational and planning skills with attention to detail.

  • An understanding of New York City's philanthropic community

The Major Gifts Officer raises major annual and capital commitments through continuous relationship building, solicitation, and stewardship with prospective and current donors of five and six-figure+ capacity. General Duties and Responsibilities: * Manages a portfolio of major gift prospects. * Cultivates and solicits gifts for the Comprehensive Campaign, raising fund for program development, capital and annual needs. * Creates and implements cultivation and solicitation methods on a case-by-case basis, including personal solicitation (telephone or face-to-face; by Development staff, Board, Executive or other) targeted mailings, invitations to events, and/or to donor parties. * Conducts follow up from donor meetings on a timely basis ensuring that information received is entered into donor base, donor debrief record and discussed with key team members. * Identifies and researches prospects, in collaboration with board and staff across the organization. Skills/Requirements Qualifications: - Professional, educational * 5 – 7 years' experience closing major gifts through strategic fundraising approaches. * Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred. * Demonstrated, strong proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Reporting Responsibilities: This position will report directly to the Senior Director, Individual Giving. SPECIALIZED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES: * Seeking a highly professional individual who takes initiative and has sound judgment. * Must be extremely organized, efficient, and detail-oriented with the ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines. * Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop collaborative relationships at all levels of the organization. * Maintain a high degree of confidentiality and discretion in regard to all matters. * Eager to take ownership over work product and able to advance work independently, but also to use good judgment and escalate issues when needed. * Proactive in identifying fundraising partnerships. * Ability to put processes / structures in place to streamline departmental work flow and further improve client experience.
