Position Description

Advertised Job Summary

Major Gift Officer (Alumni/Dev Manager II), Salary: $59,581 per year, USC Aiken Development

The position reports directly to the Vice Chancellor for Development and Alumni Affairs. The Major Gift Officer will be responsible for aggressively pursuing the fund-raising goals of the University of South Carolina Aiken.

Individual will be responsible for generating new contacts directly and expanding relationships with key existing and prospective donors. Solicitation of major gifts and expertise in planned giving are important aspects of this position. Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 3 years of successful higher education or related fund raising/development experience; demonstrated success in raising funds from individual and institutional/corporate donors; Must be available to work flexible hours and travel.

Knowledge of Blackbaud CRM database preferred. University fundraising experience strongly preferred. Superlative written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated presentation abilities, excellent negotiation and interpersonal skills; organizational skills to manage multiple concurrent tasks; ability to maintain high level of confidentiality; ability to work independently and as part of a team; ability to confer with a broad spectrum of university, community and business leaders.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of Blackbaud CRM database preferred. University fundraising experience strongly preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Ability to establish good working relationships with alumni, students, donors, businesses and the general public; ability to relate fund raising programs to university goals and objectives. Must be proficient using computers and standardized fundraising software.

Excellent communication and writing skills. Solid understanding of finances and budgets.

Job Duty

Develop and maintain an active portfolio of donors and prospects. Work regularly and directly with donors to determine individual interests and craft proposals to meet the desires of these current and potential donors.

Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 50 Job Duty

Solicit gifts per year in the $10K to $50K range. Work with the Vice Chancellor (VC) for Development & Alumni Affairs and other Major Gift Officer(s) on cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies. Coordinate all solicitations and maintain monthly metrics with VC.

Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 15 Job Duty

Maintain weekly accurate and up-to-date moves management on all prospects and potential donors. Meet with VC and Prospect Management Team in Columbia on a quarterly basis to keep moves management on track. Research wealth engine information, (annual, capital, and planned gifts) on CRM to identify new prospects.

Work with VC to develop comprehensive gift strategies with deans and directors for USC Aiken's colleges and schools to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major donors for the university. This includes major and plan gifts that align with the strategic plans of the university.

Attend USC Aiken chancellor and donor events to secure new friends and donors. Work with Vice Chancellor on 12-to-18-month calendar for fund-raising initiatives.
