This is a sales position with the primary responsibility for soliciting, selling and implementing Office Depot products and services to the large-size private sector market with a potential annual spend of $150,000 to multimillion dollar accounts. The Major Accounts BDM will target this market by direct outside sales with customers that typically have more than 500 white-collar workers and have not been identified as targets by the Global/National Accounts division.

This position is responsible for C-Level relationship building, and is also expected to work with multiple individuals with the authority to make the purchasing decisions that may reside in multiple locations that may include multiple districts or regions. Major accounts customers are typically accompanied by a much greater level of complexity (from the initial contract negotiation to delivery, billing, and purchasing issues etc.) than the mid to small size customers.

The Major Accounts BDM will engage in customer relationships regardless of the prospects' contractual status and proactively create an awareness and presence with non-Office Depot customers.


Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and 7 years' experience in related field.

Other Information:

  • Outside Sales experience.

  • Working knowledge of MS Office products, CRM systems a plus. Solid navigation skills and functional capabilities of Office Depot web site and of Office Depot eCommerce.

  • Thorough functional knowledge of eCommerce and electronic billing system capabilities, both Office Depot and third party's software, and working experience with the conversion/integration of systems.

  • Strong Sales skills.

  • An understanding of the customer relationship process, buying process and a demonstrated record of senior level customer contacts.

  • A thorough grasp of professional and consultative selling skills to include a history of successful contract negotiations. The close cycle will can range from 6-18 months and will typically involve multiple decision makers in the purchasing decision.

  • Fluid organization agility (the ability to learn, understand and navigate an organization at the upper to lower levels).

  • Personal comfort level when dealing with senior positioned customers in professional and social settings.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, must be able to present complex topics i.e., pricing and service strategies.

  • Independent and self motivated.

  • Must have a desire to develop an in-depth understanding and knowledge of the products and services offered by Office Depot as well as those offered by the competition.

  • Must demonstrate an understanding of the industry, the current trends, and leverage that information to the benefit of Office Depot and the customer.

  • Ability to develop a professional relationship and exert this influence for a favorable decision.

  • Ability to work in a matrixed organization.

  • Flexible with respect to change initiatives.

  • Perseverance despite customer objections.

Responsibilities The Bruker BioSpin Group currently has a new opportunity based in the US - Americas Region for a New Business Development Manager to develop and lead sales activities focusing on the Biotech and Pharmaceutical market segments. * Develop sales of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (NMR) Division in Biotech/Pharmaceutical (BPH) market segments, in close coordination with NMR BPH market management. * Deliver NMR BPH solutions from end-to-end of the pharma value chain and position NMR as a value added supplier. * Achieve and deliver annual and quarterly growth in new order bookings, revenue, and brand image according to NMR annual and quarterly objective, focusing on new customers and accounts. * Grow BPH new order booking and revenue in the territory allocated with the identified (new) customers and accounts for all BPH solutions. * Build sustainable business partnerships with (new) customers in the BPH industry, especially in pharma segments not yet served by the NMR Division. * Successfully articulate and present the value proposition of the different BPH solutions, at all levels, including executive customer level. * Understand the customer's value chain, critical success factors, and key initiative based on which the account plan and sales strategy is developed. Communicate how the NMR BPH solutions address customer's needs. * Proactively introduce new solutions in the BPH portfolio to new customers and adjacent market segments. * Actively contribute to lead generation and qualification. Nurture qualified leads towards budget definition, offer definition and contract negotiation. Manage opportunities and close deals in adjacent market segments. * Study all aspects of BPH market, including technology development, business opportunities, government policy and industrial regulations, in order to promote sales of Bruker NMR and EPR solution to BPH adjacent markets, in close collaboration with BBIO NMR regional sales manager and pharma market management. * Negotiate and close sales contracts in the designated area for new customers and adjacent markets, following the processes defined by the NMR Sales organization. Includes generation of system, console and accessory quotes as required. * Work closely with divisional pharma product development and market management team. Support business operation team, marcom, service engineers and application specialists to complete the delivery, installation and payment procedures. * Perform other duties as required. Qualifications * Extensive work experience in the pharmaceutical industry * Strong background in analytical technology, ideally with knowledge of NMR spectrometers, related accessories and solutions. * Master degree/PhD in chemistry, related science disciplines or equivalent working experience. * Work experience focusing on sales, account management, business growth, lead generation and nurturing is highly desirable. * Excellent verbal, written, computer, technical, communication, proposal and presentation skills, including advanced level MS Office proficiency. Familiarity with SalesForce, SAP and CRM desirable. * Fluency in English required.
